My son charged me with his Tyrannofex. I was on the 2nd floor of a 3 floor building. His Tyrannofex was too big to fit on the 2nd floor. He could not get into base contact with me from the ground. Can his Tyrannofex be in close combat if he cannot physically get into base contact? dsf

Strict RAW, no. The model doesn't fit, and so can't be placed there, and so can't get into base contact.

Some players see now problem with the RAW here, whle others allow Wobbly Model Syndrome to kick in for this scenario, or just go with the older rules that allowed you to move the model as close as possible and call it good enough.

As stated above it "technically" isn't allowed, but most people at my store will agree that if the distance rolled is far enough to get into base contact we'll call wobbly model and let them duke it out.

My favourite house rule is to use a "volume of reach" by using the area of the base and the height of the model.

Just imagine a cylinder (if using a round base) and if that cylinder touches the volume of the defending model, it counts as base contact
