Curious if anyone has been using the cadian battle group from the mont'ka for astra militarum and if it has been fun and have been semi successful with it?

I just can't get over how unnecessarily massive the infantry formations are. Cadian sales must have been low to force a mandatory 50-man platoon.
Arty formation seems solid though. Shame it forces a mixed composition. Would have been cool to have a proper battery of like 9 Bassies all unloading ignore cover, twin-linked shots.
A man can dream.

I've had a lot of success with each formation individually and have ran the full battle company as a tank division which was also quite fun (although maybe not the most competitive). I'm still building up enough troops to try out the Emperor's Shield Company so I can let you know once that's been tried.
I'm very happy with the formations overall. I think the tank company one makes LR's more viable than what they had been. I absolutely love the Artillery company as well.

The sentinal scout formation is not to bad when your able outflank them with so many auto cannons. I have destroyed a good deal of stuff that way.
A buddy let me bring a smaller version of the infantry one (ie bringing 2 squads instead of 5 in each platoon) it worked rather well. Some point I will have to try the full one tho.

I've seen others in my meta have a lot of success with the armored formations, surprisingly. Enough, in fact, that I'm considering an armored IG force for my next army.

Yeah, actually. There's a guy at my club who uses the Battlegroup with Leman Russes, and a single Emperor's Shield platoon as an Auxiliary, with a large unit of Armored Sentinels as escort. it works surprisingly well.
Personally, I've no interest in the detachment, but I've made several formations work great for various lists.
The Psykana division can make one hell of a daemon factory absolutely dirt cheap, and is incredibly good combined with a VSG
The Emp Wrath is the obvious big winner, lets me take either basilisks that are worth something, buffed up beefy Manticores, or just wyverns without burning HS choices. I use this in my TAC and love it, since then I can use single-gun Rapier laser destroyer batteries as my tank hunting HS choices.
I know another guy who uses the Emperor's Spear very successfully with his Militarium Tempestus army and loves it.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

My issues with the formations people say are decent is that if you want to go ignores-cover artillery or an all-tank list, Forgeworld has far superior options for both.
The only one I think is unique and cool is the sentinel formation, but I am unfortunately 4 sentinels short of being able to field it.
The only part of the Decurion I like is that you can plug a Paskisher squadron into any other army without any further taxes. Hell, you could run an entire army of tank commanders or CCS's if you like.
