Watch that guy's videos. He's really good at painting miniatures.

The two big ones for me:
Make sure to prep the model well (ensure no mould lines are still on the model and clean up the areas where the pieces connected to the sprue)
Make absolutely sure to thin paints and go with multiple thin layers rather than one thick layer.

Also, welcome! I tended to watch a lot of "how to paint blood angels" videos when I started, and picked up a lot of techniques from them. I won't say I'm a perfect painter by any means, but it resulted in my first round of models looking decent and getting compliments by my third round.

Do you have a chapter in mind?

If not, or you're making up your own, what color(s) are you planning on using?

There's tons of vids, but generally if you want insight on highlighting/shading techniques for marines there's different color-specific options that are generally searchable by looking for the chapter that corresponds to the color you like.

Hmm. That's actually an uncommon choice.
I like that.

None of the 'major' chapters are tan. There are a couple that are named but aren't really fleshed out with any background.

Thats not really a problem and its totally encouraged to make up your own chapter, but in terms of something that might help you, I'd check out the Deathwing Company of the Dark Angles. Most of the chapter is green, but their elite 1st company is bone colored (basically tan).

As such, videos will be for painting terminators, but the fundamentals are the same for painting a regular marine.

What do you think?
