Hello =)

I recently painted a Tau Commander and since i want to give every HQ in my army one outstanding special trait, i chose to not only switch colors on the commander (army is grey with yellow sept color - Kel'shan sept) but to try and paint battle dmg/chipping for the very first time.

I would love to get some c&c - does it look realistic, could i do something different, too much or too less dmg...what do you think? =)

Cheers!

A lot of the damage/chipping seems to be focused at the corners of parts, with a very small amount on the flat parts. I'd think there would be more markings around the chest (biggest part of the target) and on flat surfaces if it was from incoming fire.

That being said, I like it.

Looks good! I like dirty Tau. Good choice for the basing (colors) as well.

Excellent work! Usually the "First time weathering" threads get my woa way too much text snippet but this is very well done and restrained.

Keep it up!

Looks great to me! I feel with battle damage, you really want to balance the aesthetic with realism, as very realistic battle damage can result in an unbalanced looking model, so adding damage is really a matter of personal taste.

I do feel the base is somehow letting down your very sharp paint job.

YMMV.

I agree, your model looks great, the battle damage is well done!

The base needs a little work though - if you look at the grass tufts they are all the same size and spaced equal distances apart - it looks like the grass is a 5 point star with one point in the middle. Nature is much more random. With the sparse terrain that you're showing, I'd use less grass and only put in in one small portion of the base. To get more variation in the terrain, try a wash of blue or dark green in small sections of the base (not on the whole base), then drybrush your light color over it. It will give the appearance that the ground is not completely uniform.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

The weathering is quite good, and even more so because it balances quite nicely with the color scheme. Even if it is just the core desert tan, the grey balances it very well. Nice job!

Since everyone's already complimented the paint job and weathering, could I just say I love the posing

That's some damn good weathering for your first go at it. Hell, it's better than what I've seen most experienced battle damage painters do. Lovely job!

I really like those colours and the damage looks good. If anything there's perhaps a bit of a contradiction between the amount of damage he suffered and the otherwise quite clean state of his suit.
