Under the couch

This is an army that I originally put together for Adepticon 2012. I had been playing predominantly Orks for 5th edition, but decided that wound allocation with that army was just too painful for tournament play, so went for something a little more straightforward.

They've been through a few minor modifications over the course of a feature number of tournies and club games since then, and with 6th Ed coming along and mixing everything up, and then travelled with me again to Adepticon in 2014 when my plans for a Guard army fell through.

They haven't had much use since 7th edition came along, because 7th edition is like, you know, 7th edition.

Because they were always a work in progress, I never did get around to getting decent photos of them, and I figured it was about time... So here 'tis:

Wolf Lord.

This conversion was the inspiration for this army. There were no official Thunderwolf models at that point, and I wasn't happy with any of the third party alternatives. Then I had the idea of converting Juggernauts into robot Wolves... And stuff happened.

Rune Priests

Space Wolf psychic powers in 5th ed were pretty awesome, and the character rules allowed for lots of them...

Wolf Priest

I wanted to include Blood Claws in the army, because everyone was just building armies with Grey Hunters exclusively and that seemed a little dull. Adding a Wolf Priest for Fearless and Preferred Enemy made the Blood Claws a reasonable option.

Blood Claws, with Wolf Guard pack leader

Aforementioned Blood Claws. I tried to include as wide a range of armour types in the army as possible, to look like the Marines all heavily customise and personalise their gear. The Blood Claws, as relative youngsters, are a little less varied than the Grey Hunters.

To give them a little extra punch on the table, these guys and the Wolf Priest ride around in this:

Land Raider Redeemer

A Forgeworld Armoured Proteus Land Raider, with the assault ramp from a regular Land Raider added (as the Proteus doesn't have one) and magnetized weapons added from the plastic Redeemer kit.

Grey Hunters, with Wolf Guard pack leaders

Parts purloined from just about every plastic marine kit available at the time.

Rhinos

Forgeworld Deimos, and regular Rhino, slightly modified.

Razorback

Slightly modified rhino with Puppetswar weapons, magnetized to be swappable.

Dreadnought

Started out as a Venerable Dread, although I started just running him as a regular Dreadnought in 6th when Venerableness stopped being particularly good. Also swapped out the plasma cannon for an assault cannon in 6th, as the snap shot rules make blast weapons a vastly inferior choice on vehicles, and the current rules passing Gets Hot onto vehicles was the final nail for the plasma cannon...

Long Fangs

A more unified unit look on the guys. No particular reason for that, other than that I thought this set up looked awesome...

Scouts

A later addition to the army, subbed in for the smaller Grey Hunter unit for a tournament.

And finally, the Thunderwolves...

These guys would have been much easier to build if I had waited for the Chaos Knight version, to use their legs... Repositioning marine legs to sit on the juggers was a pain.

So that's it for now. I have an Aegis defense line to add one day when I feel the urge, for some anti air protection, but for now these guys are just resting in the cabinet until I feel the urge to play 40k again...

Awesome army man. Unified classic look throughout and those Thunderwolves are sooo much better than the standard Giant Wolves in Space IMO.

Should put up your other armies too, great stuff!

Very interesting, love the glowing blue as a spot color on them.

Thanks, guys. The colour scheme started out as something that was going to be quick and easy to throw on there in a hurry but that would hopefully still look ok... So I'm really happy that the end result was so spiffy

Despite my issues with the current game, it's a fun army to use.

Super cool! Obviously great work on the wolves, but overall my favorite is how much personality you packed into the whole army. I hope my wolves when finished can achieve the same thing you have!

Yes, the freehand symbols are exceptionally well executed. All around top class work! Thanks for sharing :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Well riding around on juggers sure isn't doing the Space Wolves any favours when their heresy review is coming up!

Awesome army.

The rest of the army is very well done, but that Land Raider is seriously amazing! Any chance you'd share with us how you did it (where to cut, where to glue etc.), because I can't be the only one that wants to make one now.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!
