I've been painting Horus Heresy Iron Warriors, but I still haven't been able to work out the colour used for their trim in the book. I know they are supposed to have yellow markings - the famous hazard markings - but the pictures from the book are very different from any yellow I've seen:

(Pictures taken from Warhammer 40,000 wiki)

Long story short it looks more like a brown than a yellow. Thoughts? And how would you paint this?

Some of the markings certainly look black, but the main markings are more like a light brown or very heavily washed yellow. It sort of depends on how the light hits the image.

I'd guess it's supposed to be yellow like always, just Forgeworld have gone for the weathered, gritty look by having the Iron Warriors look a bit dirty and grimy. Maybe try painting the yellow and then giving them plenty of black/brown washes to fade and dirty it up.

Now, what I've always wanted to know about painting Iron Warriors is how to get this look;

Now that ^ is badass. I can't even really describe it, it's like a dirty, grimy metallic greenish colour. All the "how to" videos and painting guides for IW just seem to be gunmetal grey with a black wash thrown in. I assume you'd get the above look with heavy use of multiple glazes and washes, maybe over a glossy metallic? Similar to the Forgeworld recipe for Alpha Legion? But I'm not sure.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

I'd paint that scheme as normal Iron Warriors, but then give it a strong wash with a 50:50 mix of Waywatcher Green and either Seraphim Sepia or Agrax Earthshade (I'm not sure which is closer to rust). But I'd be interested in hearing a second opinion.
