Crazed Cultist of Khorne

Western NY

Hello all:

This is an update to my original thread, which in hindsight I realize may have been a bit misleading (judging from the title it bore, one might have thought it was for a project already underway, rather than the proposal and questions that it entailed).

I also came to the realization that I hadn't introduced myself either:

I first caught 'the bug' when I was about 11, fell in love with Ork/cs and my first ever model was Nazgob the Orc shaman, whom I utterly mutilated with a paint brush. I also had an original Azhag model which I adored.

When it came to 40k, I landed firmly in the great crusade and enjoyed thoroughly the destruction of all that was unclean in the righteous name of the God-Emperor. If I had ever fully finished everything I had, there was a looted Landraider Battlewagon and about 60 Orkboyz waiting for my attention. But sadly, I became a young adult and chose to fill my time with lesser endeavors.

I've been absent from the hobby since 5e, but "it never just goeees away." I've been lurking all the while, periodically checking out new fluff, models and awesome modeling projects.

Fast forward -- A couple of months ago I was in a local comic-shop and minis were marked half off. I caught eyes with a box of bloodletters and I had the itch. I didn't even know KDK was a thing, but I love killy, blood and close-combat, so here I stand.

It was a match made in the Warp.

I've since begun dabbling in a little bit here and there to uncover some of the lost data from my own golden age.

I'm no GD level painter (haha, not even close) but I've found discipline and restraint in my maturity, and with the availability of -money- and an understanding of proper equipment maintenance (Army days) I stand ready to tackle my old foe, armed with good clean brushes, ample space (no basement-dwelling here) and a hoard of tutorial videos that just weren't around back when I started.

In terms of modeling, this is actually my first 'major' conversion work. I feel much better equipped to visualize, plan and execute a project than I ever was as a grot. I come with humility in search of your well-learned advisement.

Now, back to the matter at hand:

I won't reiterate in detail how much I don't like the official skull throne model.

A) Because in my original post I think I offended someone with my calculated usage of a heavily outdated and purposefully clunky adjective used to describe something that may-or-may-not be lacking in chromosomal count.

and

B) Because I know I'm not alone in my opinion.

But I do believe that what I'm bringing to the table is more befitting of something worthy of the esteemed title of Khornate Skull Cannon.

I know that its bigga (betta) than the stock model and maybe to some, too big. I do not mind that, and even though I plan to eventually make it to some tourneys, I'm not in it for the ego-boost, I'm in it for the -F.U.N.-

So without further ado:
Can you say Gorefeast?

At this point, I'd say the modeling is at about 80%
I'm waiting on some GS in the mail, which I'll use to flesh out the roller arms, replace the trim on the top/front plate and add some other gubbinz. There's certainly a bunch of filing/cleanup in order.

I purchased a forge/maulerfiend kit second-hand and it uses (obviously) the full body, with the forgefiend front legs as back legs (for pushin'.. like a reverse-chariot) and the maulerfiend front arms (cut down heavily) as the roller supports.

The forks/pistons are held together using poster tack right now, that'll be replaced with GS. I don't currently have any extra 'letters to devote to this, but there will be one up top on the platform where the stand-in is and another strattling da Kannon.

So. Should I recess the cannon further? Move the head?
I may end up losing the nose spike and the tongue (though I reeeeeally don't wanna) for clutter reasons...
What are your thoughts on the vanilla chaos icon? Is it un-Khorne to let it be? Or should I file it off and mold on a proppa Khorne icon?

All C&C welcome.
