Subject: Mastadon Strategy Questions

So, I've decided on a Mastadon to use as a LoW (A Cardboard box will do for now )
I plan on putting 2 Contemptors and 2x 10 man Vet squads.
I was thinking of giving the Contemptors a TL-Lascannon and either a Chainfist with Grav or a Kheres.
I'm a little confuse on what to do with the Vets though, I want them to pop out of the Mastadon and target infantry while the Contemptors support them and take out Armor/Heavy Infantry
Would this work?:
-Sarg w/ Power Weapon
-3x Vets w/ Power Weapons
-2x Vets with Heavy Bollter and Suspensor Webs
-4x Normal Vets
Veteran Tactic: Fearless (Sniper?)
They will also have Stubborn (Thousand Sons)
Whole thing comes to 280 pts, is that too much? How do you people run your Veteran Squads?

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

I'd say the vet squads are wasted on a role like this: there's just to few of them to be a large threat to infantry blobs, and not enough of them to bother any dedicated CC squads. Personally I'd run something along these lines:
5 terminators (any kind really, these will typically go for stabby squad or other good targets)
1 contemptor (to go after stuff it would be good against
20-man tactical squad (to tie up stuff, kill weaker units, or capture objectives)
this way you have 2 harder hitting units backed by a larger squad that can tar-pit for a few turns or even ruin stuff on their own (a good fury of the legion, for example) Though personally I'd hold off on any larger purchases (such as the mastodon) until after we get our legion rules. 'cause won't it suck to have a mastodon (or build your list around one), and then only get shooty special units and rules
as for loadouts, it's all variable on what you want them to do. if you're strictly building them for an anti-infantry role, I'd arguably skip the heavy bolter all together and take another power weapon. ESPECIALLY since you'll be popping them out within charge range anyways.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

That does see like a good load out.
I'm waiting for legion rules for everything, I'm using cardboard cut outs for now

As soon as I heard about the Mastodon, I wanted to try this out. Only problem is it's a huge investment in points and would need minimum 4400 points or something game to use.
20 man Tac blob
Praetor
Apothecary
6 Red Butchers
Gahlan Surlak
Angron
Depending on if Primarchs have Bulky, Very Bulky, or Extremely Bulky, you can fit another Red Butcher in there. Somewhat limited in that there's no good fire support being transported, since there's no Dreadnoughts or shooty units, but who needs guns when you can smash?

as much as I like the mastadon, however, it's kinda really mediocre imo. It can be fun, but super costly, and super niche :(

Beehive is the best
1.Play DA (optional, however their Bio-Acid HB rounds is a great Boon)
2.Take as many Jetbikes as possible to fit into the Mastodon
3.Take these in units of 3, the Sarge has a Plasma Cannon, the other 2 have heavy bolters (with Bio-Acid rounds)
4.See if you have the space to fit a Preator or Centurion in there (give him Bio-Acid rounds too)
5.Roll up the board in your Mastodon
6.Disperse the Angry Bees!
7.Dakka Stuff
8.Relocate behind the Mastodon
9.Get back in it next turn
10.Repeat
11.???
12.PROFIT

Onslaught detachment for the two LOWs?
