Okay, I have been thinking up new list ideas for a fun TIE Advanced list. I love the ship almost as much as I love TIE Interceptors, and I wanted to make a high PS list. Here is what I came up with.

Darth Vader 36
TIE/x1
Accuracy Corrector
Engine Upgrade
Outmaneuver

Maarek Stele 32
TIE/x1
Accuracy Corrector
Munitions Failsafe
Veteran Instincts
Advanced Homing Missiles

Juno Eclipse 32
TIE/x1
Accuracy Corrector
Twin Ion Engine MKII
Push the Limit

I decided on the Accuracy Correctors over the Advanced Targeting Computers because I like the reliability of it. After reading into the card, being able to still roll attack dice and if I want keep a better result while letting me know that every ship can essentially roll a guaranteed 2 hits at worst. I haven't tried it out yet, but I get the feeling it will allow me to use my actions to focus on survival and positioning.

I am happy with Vader. Has Push the Limit built into him with no negatives, with Engine Upgrade he can arc dodge with the best of them. Instead of finding ways to increase my attack dice, I decided Outmaneuver would be great on him because of his mobility and the Accuracy Corrector. The Engine Upgrade I felt was a no brainer.

I have been tossing around a few Maarek Stele builds trying to take advantage of his pilot skills, and I am pretty happy with this one. He also got an Accuracy Corrector for the turns after he launches his missiles. The Munitions Failsafe, Advanced Homing Missiles and Maarek himself look pretty sweet together. Veteran Instincts so he can launch missiles before hopefully being shot at, and still stay near the top of the shooting phase afterwards.

Juno I have been struggling with, it blows my mind how slippery she can be because of her abilities. That is why I wanted her to have Push the Limit and Twin Ion Engine MKII. Push the Limit will allow me to barrel roll and evade or focus, and the MKII engines double how many green maneuvers she has. And another Accuracy Corrector to free up actions for positioning and still be able to roll 2 hits every turn.

Let me know what you guys think!

This Is Where the Fish Lives

Don't put Accuracy Corrector on those TIEs. Their damage output is anemic and one added crit is better than a guaranteed two hits that can be canceled. ATC was pretty much designed with Stele in mind because it plays directly into his pilot ability.

Also, Outmaneuver isn't that useful on Vader because he isn't nearly as arc-dodgey as someone like Fel. Vader is better off with Predator, Lone Wolf, or Veteran Instincts.

Accuracy Corrector isn't the way to go on the Advanced.

Think of it this way, you get two hits with AC. Assuming a T/L, your automatically have a crit, in addition to what you may roll. A focused TIE/Adv will likely output more than two hits almost every turn, an unfocused one will at least likely match the output of the AC, but with one crit.

The reliability is an illusion, there's nearly no circumstance where the ATC won't outperform the AC, unless you anticipate flying against a lot of lists that have high PS ships, meaning they move mostly after you and you may not necessarily know which ship to TL. Honestly, even then that'll work itself out more often than not.

I feel like Juno Eclipse is just crying out for Engine Upgrade, Advanced Sensors and Stay on Target. You could practically pick her up and place her wherever you wanted each turn, and never lose your action, and she'd still have space for a Proton Rocket.

Accuracy Corrector/Juke isn't actually bad on Juno Eclipse. She's already got a ludicrously good dial but has lousy action economy for a (fairly expensive) ace.

For Darth Vader - who has a free action every turn - and Maarek Stele - whose ability triggers off critical hits - the Advanced Targeting Computer is generally much better.

I get the idea of accuracy corrector to let you spend your actions on evading and repositioning, though. I'm not sure in practice, if I wanted to go that way, if I'd take Outmaneuver or Juke. The former reduces agility by one, whilst the latter knocks out one 'evade' unless your opponent spends a focus token. Juke I think is better en masse - if you've got at least two people with it it's better.

For Maarek Stele, if you want to make him all about his missile, I'd take Guidance Chips rather than failsafe. I'd rather use the modification to make it more likely that the missile hits than to get a 'second try' if it misses - the limited range of the Advanced Homing Missile makes it damn fiddly to set up another try.

As an aside, this is another reason to consider Juke on Vader - making an opponent spend their focus token then have Stele smack them with the missile.

Juno doesn't really need MkII engines. Remember that she's already got green speed 2 banks because you can pick a speed 1 bank and increase the speed by one!

Also - one side comment: If you're taking Accuracy Correctors and have points spare, you can do far worse than fit a TIE advanced with Cluster Missiles. Normally that's a trick for generics, but they hurt like hell regardless of who's firing them. Indeed, if you've got a Juke or Outmaneuver equipped ace, they're going to be extremely painful.

Accuracy corrector is better on low pilot skill generics.

Vader wants advanced targeting computer as does maarek who's ability is just awesome with a guaranteed crit but will never go off using AC.

Gotcha, great points guys. I will rework the list this weekend and give it another try. Want to get it all hammered out before I start buying stuff! Thank you all for the input, I want to make these ships work so bad haha.

I am almost tempted to just take the missiles off of Maarek and just go with Advanced Targeting Computers on everybody.

Yes, I know that Juno has more green options than those printed on her movement dial, but for one point to get even more green I feel would be nice to have the option to start with a green three bank and if I have to change it down. Or, start with a green two bank and go up or down from there. Especially with Push the Limit. The guys I play with have been telling me how much an Advanced hates stress, so I am a bit worried about it. I will have to try her with and without the MKII engines.

Proton Rockets are probably the first choice for any 3 agility missile ship, they're cheap and they confer a hell of a punch.

Probably best on Vader as he can either T/L and Focus for a fully boosted attack or can Focus and use a repositioning action to get into R1/out of arc.

A 5 dice attack really helps up the average damage of the list, and can one shot some ships quite easily. I've also run them on A Wings with Jan Ors, a 6 dice, fully boosted attack is pretty devastating!

As for stress, yes, the Adv is a bit lacking in greens, but if you're not using your own stress inducing upgrades then you've only got to worry about lists that inflict it, and if you're building a fun list and encountering those sorts of list, your opponents aren't doing the same!

I'd forget about that for now, and if it becomes an issue, you can always revise.

Oh my, I will have to try this out! Looks like fun.

Also, would it be worth dropping the engine upgrade on Vader? I had the idea to originally build him as an arc dodger, but that's what my three TIE Interceptor list is for. I know the Advanced is more durable, I will have to try focusing on that a bit more.

Not too big a fan of missiles though, it is most likely that I just need to learn to play them better, but they haven't really done jack diddly for me.

Every time I've flown Vader without an EU I've regretted it, these days if I don't have the points I use a different ship or cut elsewhere.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice.

So I proxied up this list:

Darth Vader
TIE/x1
Adv. Targeting Computers
Engine Upgrade
Outmaneuver

Maarek Stele
TIE/x1
Adv. Targeting Computers
Guidance Chips
Veteran Instincts
XX-23 S-Thread Tracers

Juno Eclipse
TIE/x1
Adv. Targeting Computers
Twin Ion Engine MK. II
Push the Limit

I flew it like absolute crap, but managed to get lucky because my opponent made tons of mistakes while flying some new ships as well. It barely managed to scrape out a win. The thoughts I did have on the list is that I completely forgot about Outmaneuver on Vader, that could have really helped, and that the Advanced Targeting Computers on the Advanced is a great decision. When I could finally fly them without bumping into what they were chasing, they put out some very consistent damage. And, an early game Thread Tracers hit made a huge difference. I will not forgot about those at all.

I really appreciated the MK. II Engines on Juno, helped make Stress easy to remove while still allowing forna great amount of mobility. Getting to pick a 2 bank that's green and have the option to go up or down to clear ships kept her dealing damage. If I could have flown her better she would have been a real star.

Vader was great, getting the turn two Target Lock from Maarek's missiles let him dance around and throw shots on target. Wish I didn't forgot he had Outmaneuver the whole game. I am real happy with him.

One build I was trying out with the Tie Advanced is Vader with Wingman and Zertik Strom with Push the Limit. So long as they stay in formation, both pilots get 2 "stress free" actions, and Strom gives them both a little defence boost at range 1.

Obviously, TIE/x1, Adv. Targeting Computers, and Engine Upgrades, would be my top choices. However, if you really needed to cut points, I could probably live without the Engine Upgrades. Usually, I wouldn't dream of taking the Tie Advanced without EU, but when you have two of them flying in formation, both doing Focus+Evade every turn, the boost just doesn't seem as important. It's still good to have for getting into range 1, but I'm not as fussed about dodging arcs, when I can just focus fire first, and fall back on the evade tokens and Strom's ability for defence.

Outmanoeuvre is an awesome upgrade, I played some games with it on Jake Farrell, and it was just devastating. So I imagine it will be great on Vader, as both ships and pilots have quite a lot in common (multiple actions, low attack).

I'm curious, did you pair Outmanoeuvre with PTL or VI on Jake?

I think I ran him with Dare Devil + Experimental Interface. PTL seems a little bit redundant on Jake, he already has a lot of options with the focus + boost/roll, but I like having the option of the Dare Devil turn at the end of a boost or roll, to carry him a bit further and get a better angle. Unfortunately, it gives him two stress tokens, which isn't too bad on an A-wing, but it's a bit annoying. But it can be worth it for a range 1 out-of-arc shot. His PS is a weakness though, VI might be a good call.

I prefer to use Tycho because he has a higher PS, and can just ignore the stress, but I really miss the barrel roll, and it is much harder to choose between PTL and Outmanoeuvre on Tycho. PTL is great for positioning, but then his attacks are a bit weak. Proton Rockets can help if you use PTL to focus+target lock, and try to maximise the hits. It's quite expensive though on a ship with only 4 hits, which is another reason I like Dare Devil (as it's like having a second boost).

So I ended up buying/trading for the list I proxied (got a great deal on a Raider, two more of the alternate paint scheme TIE Advanceds and traded for the other upgrades).

I am going to give it another couple games of the new list, been realizing how much I missed during the game with it. Life lesson, drink less beer with your opponent when trying to play a list you have never played before and just have everything written in a notebook. The list comes in at 99 points, it didn't matter that game but shooting before your opponents ace pilots can be critical.

Vader did some serious damage even with me forgetting the whole game he had Outmaneuver and than me flying him into multiple target locks and missiles. Whoops.

Will let you guys know how it does in it's next game, I am very excited to use it once the last of the purchases come in.
