What is your favorite primary army to play against? Which army brings a smile to your face when you see it across the tabletop? I am trying to find out which army people enjoy facing the most. With so much focus on the competitive side of the game, it's refreshing to focus on making the game fun for you and your opponent. Thanks for your response!

I like facing Orks because they are so random! Even if I get beat by them its fun!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I like playing against Orks too. I put down Harlequins, even though they have some tricks they seem to bring a fun fight to the tabletop.

I play orks, so my favorite army to play against is Space Wolves. They ain't afraid to have a proppa' fight! They'll charge me, I'll charge them, we'll both die in droves, it's a slaughter all around, just like war is supposed to be.

Good old Orks because there's nothing like Zealous Crusaders trading punches with big, grimy Orks.

I would also say Chaos, and other vanilla Space Marines (even though I often lose to them).

Krieg! What a hole...

Chaos, killing filthy traitors is fun, so that would apply to players playing Traitor IG or Renegades and Heretics, but they're rather rare.

I love playing against my friends' Chaos Marines and Orks, but I think I like CSM just a little bit more. The different combinations and interestingness of their rules makes them great opposition. And then Orks are just a little bit less so (though maybe that's just because I play against them less).

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

I voted for Dark Eldar, my friend plays Dark Eldar and I play Tyranids (Nidzilla mostly).

I always enjoy the game as it's just like a fist fight his stuff piles wounds on me and I ID all of his units.

It always ends up in a close and enjoyable game.

I think most people like playing vs orks because they're relatively balanced with every phase, (Ever sat through a Tau shooting phase, or a 14 WC psyker phase? Booooring) straight forward, (No long lists of special rules for every little thing.) and in the grim darkness of the far future, they're the only ones having fun just fighting!

Ork vs Ork games or the best.

As an Ork player I like fighting Imp Guard surprisingly. I love trying to bum-rush a WW1-WW2 style gunline. All I need is one big mean powerklaw and then the chaos spreads. Its like that scene from The Two Towers where they try and fill the berserker Uruk-hai with arrows as he runs the flame to the bomb at the base of the wall.

A lot of Ork choices. There are so few Ork players in my area that I rarely ever play against Orks. It's like Space Marines/Guard/Tau/Eldar/Demons.

Everything else is fun just as a novelty.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Orks and that's usually because the people behind them are fun people not just to game with but hang out in general.

Except one guy I know, who takes the game too seriously...

Space Wolves, not including TWC spam. Some TWC make for an interesting game though, and promises to get some Assault action. With the Wulfen on the table, there's a lot of bloodlust and I'm more than happy to meet then in close combat.

Orks are fun to play against, my vote.
Most armies can be fun to play against, it's usually the opponent or his list who can make a game drag

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I like to play against Necrons because I play Tau. My buddy who plays Necrons doesn't hold back so I don't feel bad when I bring ... whatever I want to the table. To add I also like that he can't complain when I beat him, because even when I birng a really gakky list and win I'll still get "Well you *are* playing tau so what did you expect" or attitudes similar to that.

Since I play orks, I voted Dark Eldar.

When they beat you, it actually feels like you got beat by the PLAYER, rather than beat by either the dice, or in the case of your usual Tau/Eldar/Sms...the massive stacks of free rules they get for no reason.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I like to play against balanced 'nid lists. Lots of fun to go up against with a TAC fluffy Ultramarine army.

But I’d prefer to kill traitors. And orcs are always good for a fun scrap. So 'nids take 3rd on my preference list.

I selected the same army that I did for my least favorite army. I don't care which army I face. . . it is all who my opponent is.

I would choose Nids, but Flyrants suck all the fun out of the game.

I didnt vote orks because I play orks and actually rarely get a chance to play against them.

So I voted chaos space marines. No unbearable cheese to go against and most CSM players arent playing to be rules lawyers. They are playing for the fluff and the fun.

Orks by far.
They are green.
There are lots of them, fearfully so.
They get close to you, prepare to die.
Heck shooting from them "everything counts in large amounts"!.
The laugh at the penalty of "snap fire".
They are the single best army for the "mad" converter.
Spoiler:

"Go fasta red" is a fine excuse for throwing in a contrasting color.
"Looted vehicle" is a great excuse to use other army's vehicles Eldar ones are the funniest.
Spoiler:

It just seems you need to "enjoy" carnage to play them.
I am sure the Orks think Khorne Berserkers are great buddies to do battle with, I am sure in turn Berserkers hate them because they seem to be enjoying themselves too much.

Ah, it may be my friend just has an ENORMOUS army of them and has played them for years and scares the heck out of the Tau and Eldar armies that expect to rofle-stomp him.

Wow, I'm surprised at these results. Almost half of 40k players feel that Orks are the most fun to play against. excited to see if the trend continues as more people vote.

I have to say, it'd normally be orks, but I've been having a load of fun playing against some nid hordes lately. Obviously not all nid games are fun --I'm looking at you, flying circus-- but a good last stand against a million gaunts is extremely gripping.

Orks!
They are fun. They are not OP but still can give a good fight, they are very characterfull and Ork armies usually have epic conversions.
