Sadly yes. Most of the initial releases came as complete kits ,but as time went on they changed them all to upgrade packs. I recommend finding one of the BaC Tactical Squads and using the parts from those. I am not a fan of FW's resin legs as I feel they are poorly cast and the studs on the MKIV legs at least are difficult to fix. Plus in most cases you can get a squad of 10 cheaper then you could for a squad of 5 resin through FW.

yeh seems everyone on ebay has this idea and you cant get them anymore.

so wow this is gonna be brutal lol. was gonna use those for my 1k sons army. the thousand sons even have two separate shoulder pack editions one of which doesn't include a torso.

maaaaaaan......

If you arent opposed to a little conversion work, you could always just take the Mk VII armor arms and legs and convert them to be Mk IV. There are some good conversions out there which shows how its done. Or you can just use the Mk VII legs and arms as is.

how to resolve this issue:

1) stick mainly with shoulder pads. with the torsos you won't really see them under the bolters, and the heads, while nice, would probably be better suited for elites and sergeants only

2) the other set of shoulder pads is 'supposed' to be for elites only as well.

so, so long as you don't buy every model a head, torso, and shoulders, the price point is mitigated. Personally, I'm going shoulders only for my line infantry (possibly heads for sergeants) for my thousand sons, and transfers for my DG ('cause I don't wanna go buy 80+ shoulder pads for my DG )

yeh but i'm doing it for the aesthetic appeal. if i wanted to win I would not pick 1k sons and go ebay mass warp spiders and jetbikes.

I'm making a 1k sons army/ daemons for hopefully daemonkin but otherwise because its cool to me to paint

torsos are a must for every model as are 2x shoulder pads. the money isn't an issue as much as the horrible way they have gone about selling kits. you would think that the company would say "well we have tons of factions all with its own heraldry, lets provide everything but legs"

...... look how poorly this model is put together and painted my god lol. https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Legion-MkVI-Corvus-Armour-2016
there is a gap in the arm to the body wtf?

Thats because the GW arms arent the greatest, not because of the FW torso. GW wants you to pose the models in a very specific way, and I've had it look like it would come out like that several times because of extra bits or just positioning of the arms. Green stuff will fill in the gap.

As for the paint job, FW is usually more concerned with just getting things to a table top ready paint job, not a Heavy Metal paint job.

Even so, you probably won't notice too many of the torsos on bolter marines. If you're sure on giving them all torsos, BaC is your best bet, but you could easily make those upgrade kits last longer if you only stuck them on veterans and Sergeants.

I can't exactly blame Forge World - it's all aesthetic, and you can make the upgrade kits last as long as you want. If you want to upgrade each guy, that's your call.

Well, it makes a bit of sense to me. Instead of having 18 different versions of every armor mark, it's easier to have 1 core version of the mark, and then the upgrade kits. it would be like having a tactical squad box for every chapter tactic.

beyond that, I'm fairly certain you might be in the wrong forum Are you planning on doing 30k TS or 40k?

You could always give them skirts (robes)

pick up cheap legs and green stuff them into a dress .

Arms however will be another issue :/

Quoted For Truth.

The Thousand Sons torsos are all blatantly Mk7 with a (far too little) bit of greenstuffing, hell you can even tell that two of them were sculpted over this torso:

You could also buy some 3rd party legs. People hardly notice them anyway.

They are basically a mix of MK 4 and 6, not really MK 7. then again, the similarities of those 3 marks of obvious (and mostly intentional)

I agree on the heads and shoulder pads approach.

I have just done 30 1k sons all with upgraded heads and torsos. I wish I had just gone for 1 set of torsos for the squad leaders and spent the rest of the money on shoulder pads as the bolters hide most of the chest.

I'm a grumpy old fart. Prior to 3rd edition that 'belt buckle' never came on anything but Mk7 - Mk6 was a different shape.

Ahh, well we could always use the whole "The TS basically had their own Forgeworld anyways" approach

Though I'm still unsure if OP was talking about 30k TS since he brought up daemons/daemonkin

yeh gonna use old 30k models for 40k.

also i meant that they need to sell legs and arms as they do the bodys and pads. it doesnt make sense for them to sell an entire marine of an armor type that you are just supposed to upg for additional cash.

TSons are crazy expensive. I'm buying one of each FW kit and scratch building the rest. It's fun

Fw complete kits would hVe been nice, as the TS in the artwork have quite different legs
