My niece has outgrown her sandpit and I have 2x5kg of "kids sand" lying about (and no you cant just swipe it off the beach here in Ireland, thats illegal!).
Can I do anything with it outside of basing/flocking? Im looking at making hills or crags or something from it. Copious amounts of pva glue and who knows what else.

Workable or a waste of time?

Whatever you do you'll want to make sure its clean. I've seen some pretty gross models from people who used found sand, rocks, etc. They get touched by nurgle if you're not careful.

keep it for basing. i cant imagine trying to make it into some sort of cement you can sculpt into terrain will work with any degree of success.

With that much sand you can cover a load of textured foam terrain tiles, cover a lot of foamcore board walls, and so on. I don't think there's much use turning it into a kind of cement blocks or anything like that.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

disinfect/clean it, keep it for basing and terrain

terrain on the surface that is. A hill made of that much sand, besides needing to make sure it bonds right, is going to just be really really heavy and possibly fragile imo

But - now you have enough sand to make a couple of wargaming modular terrain tables =D

You could make up some textured paint, perhaps a grey or black one for foam core buildings, roads, urban tables and a brown for earth.
If you keep them then all of your terrain will stay consistent for years to come.

You can definately use it to sculpt hills and stuff with it. I've used it for just that. Just apply, heavily coat with PVA, wait to dry (or don't, depending on what you're going for) and repeat. When it finally dries all the way out, it'll be a cool craggy looking surface, and it'll be rock hard. I don't currently have any pics of anything I've done with it, but I'm sure a little Google fu will turn up something

It makes a good texture base for sci-fi desert planet buildings that differ slightly from the plaster method most folks use.
All you need is sand, glue and paint.
