I've been playing GW games off and on since 2nd ed. 40k, and after being out of the loop for a while have decided to slowly start collecting an army. After considering all the options, I think I've settled on Iron Hands and maybe add some ad mech allies down the road. I think I want to build towards a dreadnought/knight themed walker list with tech marines and thunder cannons maybe master of the forge. To get started I was thinking about buying a Betrayal at Calth box, a start collecting space marines box, and 2-3 Iron Hands bit sprues. Do you all think this would be a decent start? After that I was thinking a devastater box for heavy weapon bits, and some Razorbacks. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Are the BaC marines compatible with the iron hands bits? Can I use the characters from BaC as captain/chaplain? Is it fluffy for IH to have cataphractii termies?

Thanks

The BaC Marines are very much compatible with modern 40k bits, including the Iron Hands bits, and BaC will give you a great core for a Marine list. I think it would be fluffy, the Iron Hands are a first founding chapter, and they have very good ties to the AdMech, so (to me at least) it would make sense for them to have more pre-heresy stuff

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Don't discard the cardboard in the Calth box. Betrayal at Calth is a darn good boardgame.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing for my Blood Ravens army. It's hard to argue with the price for the number of models you are getting, but only two things are stopping me:

1) I don't like the Cataphractii terminator models. The rules in the Angels of Death supplement are great, but I don't care for the models.

2) I'm not sure if the tac models in the kit are customizable or not. Will I still be able to add plasma/grav/etc. weapons to the squads?

1. I'm tempted to take the Cataphractii armor, tack on heavy weapons, bulk up the model a bit, get the correct height for it, and use them as Centurions.

2. They are quite customizable and are basically set up in the same manner as a normal 40k tactical marine sprue. For the few models I made so far from the box, I made 4 using 40k Heavy Bolters from the devastator kits and they went together just fine with the Calth tactical marine models.

Are they compatible with 30k sprues? Specifically, I would want to use Dev Squad heavy weapons with them.

They are. Forgeworld recently changed up the weapons to be used with them

Does anybody know what would be a fluffy knight house to play with IH? I'm assuming one of the mechanicus houses.
