Hi guys and gals of Dakka,

As above really, I was thinking of grabbing a few of the FW Warp Hunters for an Eldar force. Does anyone have any experience using or fighting against them and more importantly any tactics people have used to make the most of them?

Hi Torus,

I've used them and have had great success with them. They pretty much delete what they shoot at. I tend to have mine at the base line, no upgrades so far, guided if I really need that kill. Their speed allows them to move where needed and you can always fire in template mode if the enemy gets too close or you need to flush a unit out of cover. Be aware of chargers though so don't be afraid to run for it for a turn. I tend to use only 1 per army but have started to use 2 which can be quite deadly.
Your opponent will most likely come at them, which is ok due to their speed and can work in your favour.

I run 2 as separate heavy support choices in a CAD. Upgraded Holofield and they have been very good.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I run both a lynx and a warp Hunter in my Eldar Corsairs army, protected by a void shield generator. They remove most things you point them at, but probably wont get you any new friends :p

I run the bigger brother of the Warp Hunter i.e the Lynx. Currently using 2 Lynxes mainly because of the true D-shot they bring instead of -1 on the D-chart for the Warp Hunter, but both options are really great choices. Warp Hunter can be squadron'ed and got barrage but -1 D as said. I would say the choice depends more on what else you bring in your list.

I played against 3 of them over the weekend. They are very good.

Point and shoot. Start with big/important targets, then work your way down the list. They are cheap and put out extremely potent firepower; when taken in a corsairs list they get some re-rolls and I think an invul save if I'm not mistaken.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Craftworld - Voidshield on the table, fire and forget.

Corsairs - Kinetic Shroud / Void Burner, where you need them and defended while doing so. Prince tactics to help with rerolls against tanks.

Cheers.

So it seems voidshields are the way to go... that said with the new marine powers able to steal terrain (and hence fortifications) that seems a little risky.
