Hey all, after a long hiatus from the hobby my brother and a few friends have decided to get back into, partly something to do on our weekends and the fact a work colleague has dumped scenery and the rules on me. I was initially going to run Skitarri but I thought I'd stick with my first army from many years ago the Tau!

Also suits my play style as I like to sit back and pew pew til everything is dead or running away like cowards. I have done a few lists to try and get a decent starter force together but the one I'm leaning towards is what I'll post here. A few caveats first, I know my HQ seems points heavy but I didn't want a squishy fireblade who looking at his entry doesn't seem to do much..I have considered an Ethereal but again squishy and its more points to the others if he dies. I'm also unsure if my strike teams can take a pulse generator but its on the list anyway. I have removed the individual points costs to avoid being spanked by the moderators...unless that's your thing then you can buy me dinner first.

HQ
Commander
Twin-linked missile pod
Fusion blaster
Shield generator

Crisis battlesuit bodyguards x3
Twin-linked missile pod x3
Fusion blasters x3

Total – 346pts

Infantry
Strike team
Shas’ui
Markerlight
Guardian drone
Pulse accelerator drone

Pulse accelerator drone

Tidewall shield line x3

Total – 597pts

Heavy support
Broadside battlesuit x2
Seeker missile x2
Shield drones x4

Total – 324pts

So to begin with, I'll mostly be going up against 'Nids and Blood angels so from what I know about those armies its assault orientated and given the models I know they have this is a safe assumption. My HQ is mostly going to be focused on hunting the larger beasts/ models and light armor such as land speeders and dreadnoughts, I've tried to keep the weapons the same to maximise efficiency. My strike teams are going to sit on the shield wall and just pew pew all the little bugs and marines, with the added 6 inches from the pulse generator and the rules for the wall and the guardian drones I'm hoping to keep them somewhat safe from return fire.

The broadsides are my heavy hitters in this list, as you can no doubt guess they are responsible for the big bugs and heavier armor I'm likely to face on the board. I know seeker missiles are a one shot but every round helps eh. It's going to be a pure Tau gun line(no alien allies) with the sole aim of long range fire and then should be doing objectives I can move a team or two of my strikes up. I'm also considering using the big bad Tau battlesuit the stormsurge in lieu of those broadsides, my train of thought is more pew pew and looking at the stats most likely more survivability.

So thoughts?

Tau is and army that doesn't use a lot of upgrades.(body guards, shas ui, all the drones) its always better to buy more units

General two missile pods deal more damage than a twinlinked, also mixing weapons on a suit makes purpose dual. fusion wants to hit hav and mp light vehicles. If you want to make mix do plasma fusion. These should be the hard hitters and broadsides kill all light stuff(to many shots!)

You raise a good point with the drones, with the shield wall bonus I should get some survivability there and thinking on it I don't need all those marker lights.

I'll rejig the battlesuits for plas/fusion mash up. Thanks for the tips there old boy.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So a few changes as per the above suggestion, I have added a second batch of battlesuits and dropped a few things such as marker lights and drones. I am however 16pts over but I can drop the seeker missiles for that.
