I've a local tournament coming up, and all armies have to be in the 750 and 1000 pts brackets.
Wanting to shake things up a bit, I've pushed to get my Taghmata units in (still subject to opponent consent), but formulating 30k lists that are so small, and Bound, isn't proving too easy.
I've already tested a couple, although one did have a Phosphor Dunecrawler (which missed every ruddy shot). They seemed ok, but the Domitar completely stole the show.
Do note - The opponents will almost always be 40k armies.
Here's the Taghmata-centric lists, just curious as to what experienced players would reckon of them:
[750 pts] [Hope for Mélee very early (HMVE)]
1 Default Magos Dominus, in the same unit as -
2 Default Domitar.
[425 pts]
4 Thallax
w/ Ferrox and Chainblades.
[220 pts]
1 Onager Dunecrawler
w/ Phosphor Blaster
- This one I did try against Space Marines. Unfortunately, the Thallax never got into Melée range, instead holding onto an objective right in the middle of the board, and distracting the main dakka from my stalwart Ikkit and Stormfiends (The Dominus + Domitar).
The Phosphor crawler, which was there for the charge rerolls, never landed a single successful shot, which fudged the Thallax.
I'd say it has too much reliance on a lucky first/second turn.
[1000 pts] [Slowly plod into their faces (SPit-F)]
1 Magos Dominus
w/ Photon Gauntlet, in unit with -
[85 pts]
3 Default Domitar
[525 pts]
7 Thallax
w/ Ferrox, Chainblades, Meltabombs.
[390 pts]
- Not tried this one. It was made in response to the HMVE.
Thallax are pretty durable, so not having as many issues as I initially suspected in crossing the battlefield, allowing them to reliably get into likely-charge range.
[1000 pts] [Bowling Balls (BB)]
1 Magos Dominus
w/ Machinator Array, Graviton Gun, Photon Gauntlet. In unit with -
[125 pts]
5 Default Domitar
[875 pts]
- Because Domitar are just phenomenal, why not just use Domitar and go bowling with Marines?
The Dominus has the Graviton Gun in hopes to stop the skittles from running away.
The Machinator Array is primarily a filler, but a very handy one at that. And the Gauntlet is just to improve his Melée, as he will be in it.
These guys can pretty much handle anything, although I am wary of using just one unit.
[1000 pts] [Enough tar to drown a Dinosaur (ET-DD)]
1 Archmagos Prime
w/ Lucifex, Rad-Cleanser, Lachrimallus
[180 pts]
2x
20-Man Tech Thralls
w/ Las-Locks, Induction Chargers, Carapace Armour, Revenant Alchemistry
[125pts x2] (250pts)
2x
20-Man Tech Thralls
w/ Chainblades, Revenant Alchemistry, Rite of Pure Thought, Frag grenades, Carapace Armour.
[150pts x2] (300pts)
And Triaros dedicated transport.
[130pts x2] (260pts)
- The only list that is Bound.
- This does equate to 80 guys toddling around. Will need to use Lego men for the time being.
The ranged ones will walk behind the Triaros until they reach cover in their paultry shooting distance, with the Dune Trains carrying on to dump 40 spooky cyborgs in the enemy's midst.
The Archmagos should be able to deal with the tough stuff, utilising the Rad-Phage to the point where the Re-purposed Disappointments can have a bash.
He has the Lachrimallus to /Revive lost Adsecularis units into Reserve/.
Given their mass of numbers, this should certainly draw out the game.
The two Triaros will be used to block line-of-sight of the enemy long-rangers. I should be able to drive them up before getting blown up, then keep harassing the opponent until they explode in front of their units.
- I do have lists that are just 40k, and some that have a bunch of Thallax.
