Now, I'm sure that this issue is really common among people who want to use SM as a starting army. Unfortunately, I've got the same question, I have no clue which chapter I want to do! So, what I propose among all of you fine beings, is persuade me to choose the chapter you prefer out of these I'm going to list below - do your worst! Choose in the poll below, and leave a note as to who you voted for and why - Let's get some community competition going on!

So, these are the ones I keep switching between:
Iron Hands,
Black Templars,
Grey Knights and
Salamanders.

Thanks guys!

"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy, but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavors, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

Black Templar are the most awesome of the 4 in terms of fluff but GW can't write proper rules for them. Iron hands are wannabe necrons so pass on that. Salamanders are rather silly with their whole fire obsession and Sisters are the more awesome/interesting pyromaniacs. Grey Knights are cool and all but they aren't really the same as normal Space Marines. That being said its hard to say no to the Terminator Baby Carrier .

All that being said I select all 4 and you get Blood Ravens (and they can use all their wargear). Read the words of the greatest space marine commander to ever exist and be inspired to take up the banner of the Blood Ravens.

"There is no time to be lost! Battle-brothers!
Spess Mahreens, today, the enemy is at our door! We know our duty and we will do it! We fight for our honor, as Blood Ravens, as Spess Mahreens, and we fight in the name of the Emperor!
If we die this day, we die in glory. We die heroes' deaths! But we shall not die, no, it is the enemy who will taste death and defeat! As you know, most of our battle-brothers are stationed in space, prepared to deep strike!
Our perimeter has been prepared in the event that our enemy should be so bold and so foolish! We have placed numerous beacons, allowing for multiple, simultaneous and devastating defensive deep strikes.
The Codex Astartes names this maneuver "Steel Rehn". We will descend upon the foe, we will overwhelm them, we will leave none alive! Meanwhile, our ground forces will ensure the full defense of our headquarters...
We are the Spess Mahreens! We are the Emperor's fury! "

Spoiler:
Grey Knights is my real choice but they are indeed different enough from the other Space Marines to be in their own category.

"Hold my shoota, I'm goin in"

I really like Salamanders, in the hordes of antihero marines, arrogant post humans who have totally forgotten why they were created by the Emperor in the first place, amid the cyborgs, werewolves, vampires and cannibals, there are the Salamanders, the actual heroes, the fighters for humanity who give a gak. Plus great colorscheme, lots of conversion opportunity and a great skin painting scheme and you don't have to paint eye pupils!

I just can't take the Blood Ravens and their METAL BAWKES seriously.

Iron Hands: Would gladly replace their flesh with metal and practically love the idea of Dreadnoughts. Close ties with the Mechanicum. Primarily a shooting army, particulary fluffy armies that have lots of vehicles. Dreadnoughts can provide CC ability.
Salamanders: Represent the little guy on the big stage, always caring. Have a flawed background where things just don't go their way, but still get stuff done. Close Ranged Army, with some CC ability.
Grey Knights: Closest ties with Inquisition. Something of a myth, after they appear in a battle, they'll either mind wipe you or swear you to secrecy, with death being punishment. CC based army.
Black Templars:Basically told Guilleman (UM Primarch) to shove off with his Codex Astartes and do their own thing, pretty much on the fly. No Librarians and a CC based army.

YMDC = nightmare

1. Do you like Librarians? If so, Black Templars are out. I don't recall Iron Hands being super pro-librarian, but they can still take them.
2. Do you like getting a codex and new units every edition? If so, Grey Knights might not be a good choice.
3. Do you like flamers and meltas? If so, Salamanders have special rules for them. Grey Knight have weirdo flamers, too.
4. Do you like tanks and tough units? Iron Hands have special rules that let them stick around a bit longer. Grey Knights have lots of psychic power buffs.
5. Finally, what color would you prefer to paint? Black and White, Black and Silver, Silver and Gold, or Green?

So, what do YOU like?

So what do YOU like?

Well, that's the thing, I like all of them! I just want some community persuasion, and as to why I should join them! I honestly can't choose between them, so I want someone to push me in a direction to go for.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.
