Hey all

I have been buying dark angels mainly so i can paint them as i liked the style and colour schemes but i have been thinking about actually organising it into an army to battle with. Problem being is i have the rulebook and codex for dark angels but dont get what i can put together:

My list of pieces is as follows:

60 x tactical squad marines

10 x veterans

24 x terminator squad

1 x storm land raider thingy

1 x predator

1 x whirlwind

2 x dreadnought

6 x biker ravenwing squad

1 x storm talon gunship

1 x nephilim jetfighter

1 x dark talon ship

4 x balthasar captains

2 x librarians

well first of all, welcome to the game.

So first you really need to post this in army list, but being a first time poster its ok.

as for the list. well, its not really that great simply because we have no context of what you want to do with it.

If you want to be competitive, you are going to want to run lots of ravening, they are super strong.

This looks more like a 5000 point army. You might want to shoot a bit lower to start.

IMO the best size army to shoot for, especially for a new person, is 1500~2000.

The following is an example of my dark angles fluffy list,

HQ:
Baliel
Elite:
Terminator command squad
Terminator Knights
Terminator squad
Terminator squad

Ravenwing
HQ:
Librarian on bike
Fast attack
Ravenwing bike squad
Ravenwing bike squad
Ravenwing Black knights.

So if you want to go competative, i would look at running a RW DW army.

Me personally I run Deathwing ravenwing because I like the fluff so.

But if you want to be competitive I would get yourself probably 3 or 4 ravenwing bike squads and a librarian on a bike. They are really strong right now. Just use them for shooting that's what they are best at

You can always mix them together,

You've got some great models for a solid list, but it sounds like you need to read the codex and rulebook some more.

Squads have a minimum and maximum amount of members, So you can have 2 - 4 squads of terminators, as an example. Also, there are restrictions on what weapons each squad can have.

Whilst you don't have to strictly adhere to any Force Organisation, it is recommended as most gamers shy away from playing against "Unbound" armies.

Get your models on the table and looking good!

Welcome to the Dark Angels. They are a really fun army to paint and use (it's like painting up three separate armies in one). The new codex has been great for them and the new Ravenwing rules are really competitive on the table.

I wrote a review of the new codex, highlighting some of the strengths and weaknesses of the book. You can find it here if you are interested: http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/p/dark-angels-codex-review-7th-ed.html

I also have a bunch of battle reports and tournament reports with the codex (mostly focussed on the Ravenwing).
