So I am thinking of getting one of the Citadel Figure Cases to replace my old Games Workshop case. I am curious if anyone has any pointers on the size of case. I am trying to choose between the Crusade Figure Case and the Battle Figure Case. I have seen the cases in person, but I am wondering if people that have them could give me an idea if my army will fit.

I am looking at just fitting my 2500 pt army, which consists of the following:

20 Sternguard
10 Scouts
7 Honour Guard
5 Devastators
3 Librarians
1 Pedro Kantor
1 Culexus Assassin
3 Drop Pods
3 Land Speeders
3 Vindicators
2 Land Speeder Storms
2 Stormtalon Gunships

Would this be able to fit into the Battle Figure Case or would I be better off with getting a Crusade Figure Case? The models listed are a fraction of my owned models.

Have you looked at Battlefoam and Kaiser or are you just considering GW options?

Battlefoam and Kaiser are both outside my acceptable price points. Oddly, the GW cases are actually pretty inexpensive.

What about KR Multicase? They are pretty cheap. I think that the GW cases work very well for Space Marines though.

The Kaiser cases run pretty high for less capacity. I am also liking GW's hard plastic shell. I have a smaller GW case already (old on from years ago), I just want to update it.

Just throwing it out there but unless you're going in for the brand new one, that hard plastic shell is actually pretty flimsy. I have one of the largest ones (at least it was at the time 5 years ago) basically working as storage space because it's too wide to be easy and convenient to transport and the plastic is really quite thin, I wouldn't expect it to really protect anything.

The smaller/thinner ones would be my suggestion if you go GW, but if you're primary concern is that you want one with a solid protective shell I'd recommend the new thing they are releasing.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I am looking at the ones that came out about a year ago. I don't necessarily need something that is *swordproof*, but I do want something that has plastic sides.

Based on reviews that I have seen online, the Battle Figure Case *might* be big enough for my army, but it could be a tight squeeze. A Crusade is probably the best option. I am willing to bet that if I brought my army into the store, the manager would let me test it out to see if I could fit everything. I would start with the Battle Figure Case and then move up to the Crusade if it didn't fit everything. Since the trays are interchangeable, even if I did a little damage to the Battle Figure Case's trays, I could just put the Crusade's trays in it to make it whole again.

Unfortunately, the nearest GW store is like 250 miles away and I only go to the city it is in on my drill weekends, so it'll be a while before I can test it out, and I would have to travel with my miniatures unprotected.

I don't have any of the cases myself but I have seen them in person so, based on your list of miniatures above, I'd say the crusade would be better suited to your needs as you have quite a few vehicles as well as infantry models which you need to transport.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I highly doubt you could fit 13 (!) vehicles even in the Crusade case to be honest, anyone remember how many they put in the case for that demo video they made?

It was 2 leman russes, a baneblade and a knight with about 20-30 marines and about 85 or so guardsmen

In the video, they fit two Rhinos and two Dreadnoughts in one tray. I could easily fit two of the Land Speeders in place of those two Dreadnoughts and Vindicators aren't much bigger than a Rhino. I am thinking both of the Stormtalons could fit on one tray (probably with the third Speeder). The Drop Pods would probably fit on one tray. Which leaves me with all my infantry, one Vindicator, and my two Land Speeder Storms...

So I think the Battle Figure Case is out. Crusade Case or the 'Ard Case it is.

From the looks of it, one can get the case from the 'Ard Case (under the name Duratool Weatherproof Case) online for dirt cheap. The foam is customizeable, so it might be the best option overall.

i picked up the citadel crusade case and i got to say that it looks bigger in the videos and on gw. the foam trays are horrible. i ended up ordering my foam trays for it through battlefoam and am fairly happy with it. but it will definitely fit all your models where as the battle case wont. i would also suggest getting foam trays for it from battlefoam since they do produce trays for the crusade case

I've definitely heard mixed things on them, too. In particular, the new foam design. It works well when the case is flat on the ground. But when picked up for carrying, heavier minis, especially anything older in metal you may have, tend to slide down the new foam 'channels', instead of staying in place.

I may just pick up the non-branded version of the 'Ard Case (available online for $30!) and use the pluck foam in conjunction with some figure foam. I liked the channel foam because it conformed to irregular miniatures. I only have one metal miniature, and that seemed to be the only issue.

I will say the GW foam rocks for troops I have all my models smaller than a dread in mine other than my tau and got a 2ed that I removed two top trays and have ALL 3000 points in it.

I got the 1st case the day they came out about a year ago and got the 2ed after finding out it is perfect cary on size for plane or train. I have 2 game plus cases I use for tanks and daemon princes type stuff. And a KR 4 tray bad for the really big things like knights and stormravens

So in the 2ed one I have 2 devil fish 32 fire warriors 2 named characters 6 crisis 2 missile sides 4 riptides 6 stealth 2 ghosts 40 drones and a commander crisis with more space to spare even without the 2 trays (the amount of foam in the new cases)

There is two bad things with the cases to keep in mind

1 spikes like to stick in the foam (chaos) it's no big deal as long as you don't try to rush taking things out.

2 tanks and other big things take up extra room do to the way foam is made so it becomes less effective

To give you a idea of how much can go in a case you can get about 40 guys per tray and there are 8 trays in the crusader 6 in the new hard case. For the same space you can only get about 20 or so on a pluck foam do to divider space.

I think I am going buy some Pluck foam and convert my existing GW case into something that transports vehicles better. I bet I could fit all the tanks or all the drop pods in it. Depending on the results with the old case, I could get by with the Battle Case. My Land Speeders kind of worry me since it will be hard to work with them since the Storms have their antennas sticking up.

If you can, carefully snap the antennae off the Storms, and use a rod or something to put them back on when you get them out.

When putting together my LSS, I didn’t bother with the antenna for exactly that reason. “Looks kinda neat, but if I glue that on it’s never fitting in a case” <chucks in bits box>

“How will it pack” is a question that should float around in the back of people’s heads when building minis or putting lists together. I like my drop pods, but they eat space in my bag like nobody’s business.

Have you looked at Feldherr cases? They are very reasonable on price and have good reviews. Though they do not offer hard cases.

I just wince at anyone paying for a citadel case when their are so many better and cheaper options out there. Yes some may require a little work to make the foam work but you will save fists fulls of money.

It is an actual tool box. I bought one years ago at the local DIY store before Feldherr became a thing. I can highly recommend them, especially for mostly metal collections like mine as the inlays are never rotatet verticaly like in most other cases.
