I was wondering whether anyone had painted up the dice/modified their appearance(perhaps to fit in with a particular army theme etc)?

What coloring the pips?

Thats old school dicing.

you had to paint in the numbers on old dice for things like DND n stuff.

I used to fill in the numbers with crayola crayons. Worked very well. Didn't chip. I still have some of the dice I used 35 years ago and the wax is still in there.

i do believe that a dice co. still produces those kind of vintage dice that need the numbers or pips colored in.

but still on topic, i for one would like to see some examples of dice that have been painted up other than the pips.

I wouldn't go too crazy with painting and modifying dice. You run the risk of putting them out of balance and essentially making loaded dice.

Short of numbering blank dice and making DnD dice readable and spraying a bunch of dice gold for a special roleplay event, no.
There's no reason why you can't or couldn't but I'd be sure to make sure to varnish them well to prevent chipping.
