So I have the metal version of the Cygnar Centurion. Love the model, but I love the artwork more, and when I saw someone else thought enough like me that hey converted the metal model to mimic the artwork I thought I'd give it a go. However, I've never done this before so I'd appreciated any pointers.

My big issue with night are the legs.

This is what they need to end up posed like:

And this is how they are right now:

It's not really obvious in the photos, but looking at the left leg (its left, not yours) its connected at the hip over a fairly large area. I think I see how I need to bend and re-align the knee and ankle, but I'm reticent to just start cutting into the hip joint without some idea about how I will need to re-attach it.

So, does anyone have any tips on converting metal hips? Cheers in advance.

looks to me like you need to cut it off fully, file down a small part of the remaining section of groin/butt plate to an angle, pin the leg at the required angle then fill the gap with GS

Awesome, thanks mate!

Just so I'm clear - you mean cut vertically so the rounded bolt-thing at the top of the thigh is still attached to the leg, and then pin *that* bit into the hip into a divot?

Pretty much.
I hope you have a good saw - and take it slow.

(Also, wd40 will help prevent the blade "sticking" in the cut.)

Ooh, nice tip on the WD40 - thanks.

Great! I'll post the results.

I've been doing this for several decades ...

One learns some tricks along the way (the wd40 trick works just as well for resin, too (resin dust when heated by friction tends to get sticky, too. Not wet-gooey-sticky, the kind of dry powdery sticky that stops saws cutting).

OK I think I managed not to make a complete pig's ear out of it:

Thanks guys, I think I see the way ahead now. From the guy who's blog I'm following the only other bit of major rework is around the spear arm, and I'm a skipping a ste there by using a ready made plastic one.

Cheers mate. And yeah, a bit around the hips I think, and a dab in the left knew joint, but that will be covered up with the knee cap I haven't attached yet.

Oh, and thanks for the WD40 tip agai, Chrome dog. I forgot about it on the first leg and it was hell. Used it on the second and it was a totally different experience.

Rather than start a whole new thread, I have another question (well, rather a request for opinions) on the same model.

I've made a fair amount of progress, and have just cut and positioned the spear arm and started on the base. However, the spear is from the newer, plastic version of this model, and is huuuuge. I'm not too bothered about the first being a bit bigger, but the spear head itself is massive:

But what I'm not sure about is is it comically too big? I could always cut the blade off and place it with the metal original. Thoughts?
