Jumping in cold? With difficulty. If you have no players in your area you're going to have an uphill battle. Prepare to trawl eBay for a long while to get your desired fleet for a reasonable price.

There is a BFG computer game that is in beta, there's a thread for it over in the Video games section. That may be a quick way to get your giant flying space cathedral combat fix.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

I started teaching some games at my FLGS after some people brought it up after seeing X-Wing, It is not hard to learn.
just read online about the different fleets and you can always play test with whatever really to see what you like most.
I would say just ask around your local stores to see if anyone knows how to play, and has ships. you only really need 2 cruisers to start learning how to play.
and fleets are all around if you look for them hard enough, and a lot of times (at-least where I am) if you will play them and give them the love they once needed as a game, people have no issues letting go of them.

Do you ever go into a fight thinking "there's no point giving it my best, I'll get another chance later?"

We only ever get one shot marlin. Life is one shot
