Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine

Little Rock, Arkansas

Got a 3 round 1850 ITC event on Saturday. Not too important of an event, so I want to take a BA list that has some cheesy bite but has some fun with it too.

List 1: Angel's fury
Angel's fury formation (3 stormravens, 3 10 man obsec tactical squads with free teleport homers, no extra wargear bought) 1020
Baal strike force
Furioso librarian lv2 as warlord in pod 210
Cassor the damned 140
2x 5 man death company in pods with 1 fist each 350
5 man cc scouts with meltabomb sarge 60
2x empty drop pods 70

Obvious play is obvious here. The stormravens come in turn 1, stop just in front of things I want to die, then 3 of the 5 pods show up and allow the occupants to assault. The furioso Libby can bring quickening and force and one shot a riptide, and possibly a wraithknight. Cassor and some DC can find something to grab and tangle with as well. Turn 2 has 0-2 more pods show up with allowed assaults before the Ravens have to move, after which 30 more obsec (formation grants it) tac marines can join the fray.

Upsides:
-don't care who gets turn 1.
-Actually boasts air superiority. If the battle goes poorly, I could buzz around until t5 and then launch a 30 marine obsec strike in the endgame.
-despite owning the wd issue where it came out, I have literally never used this formation.

Downsides:
- initial roll for the Ravens to come in is a rerollable 3+, so there's a 1/9 chance they just don't show up and I have to offer up 3 pods of guys to die.
- Ravens and 10 man tac squads take up a ton of points. The enemy lines are just getting hit with a couple dreads, some minimal DC with fists, and cc scouts, and not even all at once. If they have daemon summoning, lots of cheap orks or other MSU, null deployment etc then my few units will kill their targets and then get killed in return.
-Enemies that mess with your reserves, like a warlord rolling that strat trait, or God forbid a callidus assassin, can have a huge effect.

List 2: The "we wish we were Thunderwolves" deathstar
Ultramarines librarius conclave (tigurius, 2x lv2 libbies with swords and jump packs) 375
BA cad
Mephiston 175
Astorath 165
15 man death company with jump packs and 3 fists 420
3x 5 man tactical squads in pods 315
5 cc scouts 55
3x 5 man ASM in pods with 2x melta and combi-melta each 345

The conclave, Mephy and Asty all join the DC and (usually) start on the table. (Yes tiggy and Mephy don't have packs. They will just be tagging along at the back of coherency during movement.) Tiggy will try like mad on fulmination to get electrodisplacement, while the other libbies roll librarius, telepathy, and Mephy rolls divination. Several chances to get deathstar-making powers like div's 4+ invuln, librarius' reroll saves, and telepathy's invis/shrouded. If tiggy does manage to get ESD, a tactical pod will drop in in front of the enemy, after which the star will displace them and charge right on in.

Upsides:
-have some fun with new powers
-don't have to take big bulky stormraven models
-ESD is really fun to strategize with
-I'm happy with "trickle-in" reserves

Downsides:
-stars, especially this poor man's version, don't like getting shot before they get buffs up. They will probably hide as best they can, but sometimes things like a whirlwind scorpius laugh at you.
-Relies somewhat heavily on tiggy getting ESD. He can grab Magnetokinesis, which would help the unit get around speedily, but severely hurts the plan. Also the odds of him getting ESD are worse than the odds of the angel's fury Ravens coming in. :(
-culexus assassin exists.

What say you Dakka? What should I run?

I have played against the Angels Fury formation and it is quite difficult. It is actually quite a challenging concept to play against.

However, I would tweak the list a bit to try and get a mobile FnP into the list. Dreads could be neat, but unsure how resilient they will be. But, they are really cool models.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I voted for the Angels Fury, it' a pain to go up against, but, I would recommend dropping one of the empty drop pods and giving to of the Tac Squads Grav-Guns to help take out MC as they're going to pop up A LOT in ITC events, trust me....
