Ok so the new Corruption artefacts ability to auto wound is pretty good, especially against high Toughness models but is it overall a better choice than the Balesword?

It will be harder to wound things like Wraithknight etc but with the ID you only need one to go through. There's also the chance of lowering the To Wound roll with Iron Arm.

An obvious drawback is that you need to swap a greater reward for the Balesword. Fine if you roll the 3+ armour and you already have warp fored armour, but it would be harder to give up the FNP or IWND rewards.

Has anyone made a detailed comparison of these two options?

Balesword pretty much always. It is superior in most situations because it lets you reroll to wound against things less then T6 and against T6+ it's probably a multi wound model you'd want Instant Death for and you still wound on 4+. The only situation corruption is better is against GMC (because they negate poison) but if you had Iron Arm or any increase in Str then it stops being such a huge difference.

Hmm yeah I forgot about the poison on the Balesword which could be useful against T7 or higher. Another plus point for the Balesword!

Even against a GMC, I'd still go with the Balesword. ID negates their FNP and does D3 wounds.

An interesting situation occurs when your Str is higher that the T of the GMC (for example a Tetrad Nurgle Prince vs a Stormsurge, or with Iron Arm vs WK). You naturally wound on 3+ and the poison gives you a re-roll to wound. GMCs do NOT ignore poison, they just reduce the "to wound" value to only 6s, but poison still allows you to wound normally if your Str is higher, thus allowing the re-roll to wound.

I grabbed an undesired reward, I'll swap it out for the balesword.

Corruption is nice, but it's a touch expensive for what it does.
It's best perk IMHO is that it means you are not rolling those 1's to wound. That makes a difference in damage output.

(7/9 to hit) * (5/6 to wound) * 6 attacks = 210/54 or 3.89 wounds
(7/9 to hit) * 6 attacks = 42/9 or 4.67 wounds

That damage boost is nice, and I have the points floating I'll grab it for targets where the balesword is not any better - but it's also one of the first things I'll drop.

Monstrous creatures count as being AP2.

That's why you always see the 'Staff of Change' being put on Tzeentch princes and Lords of Change. 10 points for +2 STR is mad.

in most cases I'd take the Balesword. Corruption would be awesome if it made it to the book as it leaked(auto glancing vs vehicles). But as it is I don't think it's worth it, as most things you'll be wounding on 2+ regardless. The ID makes the Balesword superior IMO.

...that big sanction stamp of APPROVAL means it's OFFICIAL. No, I don't have to ask you for permission. D-cannons win games.

Corruption is something that is more attractive for a Herald imo. Mainly because you don't have to use your Greater Reward for the Balesword then.

Though being able to take two Greater Rewards and Corruption on a Demon Prince is pretty sweet if you roll the good defensive rewards.
