Hey guys, im looking to do a bit of a side project aside from my army. I want to paint up a rogue trader, not a rouge trader era model, but actually mock up a rogue trader captain in fancy pirateish garb.

somethign along the lines of this.

or

my ultimate goal is to make a sort of motley crew, thinking of doing a rogue trader, a tech priest, an eldar warp spider or warlock, a terminator and a spacemarine maybe as a lib, a group of kasrkin, and maybe an ork.

just as a fan fluff pet project.

My current delema though is a model to start with for the rogue trader, im pretty sure the best bet would be a commissar, but not sure which one.

Do you all have any knowledge of other models be it forge world or for some where else, 28mm size still, but can be greenstuffed into a captain?

To many unpainted models to count.

I would say a Commissar is your best bet 40K wise. You might want to check Infinity, or some of the other mini companies out there. Might find something that fits better.

Sort of surprised Forge World didn't make a Rogue Trader.

These are cool but they are not epic scale.

No idea on the scale of some of these:

I know it might not be what you're looking for as he isn't carrying any weapons, but Kabuki Miniatures makes a mini called Napoleon X which looks sort of like what you're looking for (http://kabuki-models.com/stand-alone/40-napoleon-x.html).

He's not as tall as a Space Marine but a bit taller than a normal guardsman. Here are some pictures to show size comparison (the paint job isn't great, it was one of my first minis).
It looks like the image quality suffered greatly when I uploaded them sorry about that.

That nepoleon x looks really good, but i would need to do some greenstuff work on him, like putting leatherboots, some more frilly shoulders, maybe a sword coming out under his coat.

I've been interested in undertaking a project exactly like this as well. A reboot rogue trader series by GW would be amazing with models based on the pics posted above. I've been looking for parts for actual rogue traders myself for sometime and the following have interesting bits that could be used for this.

If you have a very fat wallet take a look at Forgeworld's Solar Auxilla Command Squad. If you are far richer than myself those sculpts are epic.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!
