Since my budget is limited and it's such a large model, I was just thinking... What if I just bought the pieces as they were required. I think I would save a little money(by not buying all the extra weapons) and would not need to buy it all at once. What are your thoughts?

Nope, postage would kill that idea.
You're better off buying a knight and selling the bits you don't use to recoup some of the costs.
Or better yet buy the new Renegade box which has a massive saving and sell off everything you don't need.

A bad idea, just go buy the new GW 2 renegade knights and terrain kit, monetary wise its a huge bargain, you practically get 1 knight free; go to frontline gaming and you get an additional 25% off. Though the transfer sheet it include its lack luster if you want a certain house, so get that separately through trade or side purchase.
Also get some magnets to fully utilize all weapons.

I haven't added up all of the costs of parts, but I seriously doubt it would be cheaper to do it this way when the new Renegade box is on eBay sellers for ~$160.

It should be obvious why this is a bad idea. The people selling individual pieces have to make a profit, so the sum of the costs of all of the parts has to add up to more than the cost of the complete kit. And since they have to buy the whole kit regardless of whether they can sell every part they increase the price on popular parts even more, to make up for the fact that some of the less-popular parts might not sell at all. For example, weapons are going to be very popular for magnetizing alternate setups and therefore expensive. The end result is that you are almost certainly going to pay significantly more for the kit by buying it one piece at a time. If your budget is limited then save up for a while and buy the complete kit sometime in the future.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I'll go ahead here and be the voice of dissent. You absolutely can build it for cheaper from bits sellers on eBay. I just got my last piece for a knight and all told I'm in for around $50.00. The main difficulty (and it is a big one) is to be patient. You need to frequent bits sellers who sell via auction. You need to keep a running total of how much you have spent. Some bits sellers hold off upwards of a month before they require payment so you can add to your purchase a little at a time and combine shipping. Do not get into bidding wars. Know how much you are willing to pay for a bit max and stick to it. Basically, it can be done for much cheaper, but it takes a lot of willpower.

$50 is still more expensive than a splitting a Renegade box from a 20% discount store and selling everything you don't need.

Well it is done... I just went out and bought a renegade box. I mean the building + the 2 knights? Its kinda a no brainer at that price.
