You've been hired by GW to make an epic diorama for a display at their HQ. No restrictions at all except you can only use GW and Forgeworld models. You can use basic things like styrofoam, foamboard, plasticard, cork, green stuff and so on. No size restrictions. It needs to be big.
Spoiler:
I would make a 5x5 meters diorama of an Imperial city controlled by Guardsmen being attacked by Chaos, with Heldrakes swooping in from the skies, Warhound Titans stomping down buildings, and Cultists swarming the Guardsmen lines. Orks would also be there, with hundreds of Stormboyz and Dakkajets attacking the city. There would be Tyranids swarming in from one side, consuming everything.
In the middle of the city there would be a destroyed Emperor Titan, with its crew and various guardsmen defending the wreckage from their enemies.
Of course there has to be Space Marines, right? I'd want 5 different chapters: Space Wolves, coming in with Stormwolves and aggressive Drop Pods, at least one of these landing on a Warhound, Ultramarines, Holding the towns center and the fallen Titan, Raven Guard, attacking rooftops, including a Land Speeder crashing into a building and making it fall, Imperial Fists, clearing streets, and Salamanders, trying to hold the line against the Tyranids.

I'd have two different options - one would be a Space Hulk or Zone Mortalis board with huge hanger areas, narrow corridors, engine rooms, control rooms, med centre and so on, depicting the Minotaurs boarding the Lamenters fleet during the Badab War.
The other option would be a version of the Bow Interchange in East London. There is a roundabout with a North-South bypass underneath it, and an East-West bypass over the top of it, so three levels of roads with ramps between them. In the surrounding area, there are canals, tube lines, huge advertising hoards, industrial areas, residential towers, both new and old, a small church, and so on... I'd depict a tank battle trying to take control of this key hub.
Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
I'd have a five meter square, divided down the middle by the hull of a ship. Breaching pods, explosions, thunderhawks, assault marines etc all fighting on the "space" half, and breachers fighting, civilians fleeing, gunships taking off, defense batteries being reloaded etc going on inside, with a huge fight for the bridge as a focal point.
Ork Klan War! A red oxide desert filled with ramshackle creations duking it out over the ruins of a Warlord titan. Lots of bright primary colors and ridiculous, OTT converted war wagons and stompas. No less than a thousand Orks on the tabletop with plenty of opportunities for humorous vignettes and little easter eggs spread throughout the whole field of battle. Give visitors a little check-sheet so that they can try and find all the little details for themselves (e.g., "Where's the pink hair squig having afternoon tea and a light, snotling snack?").
Kaldor Draigo leading an army of Stormcast Eternals to storm the fortress of Khorne. Draigo is about to administer the death blow to Khorne himself, the broken bodies of most of the daemon primarchs around him. One of the Stormcast Eternals has removed his helm to better deliver orders to his comrades- it is clearly Marneus Calgar.

I would make.... and it will be the FIRST diorama people see when they enter (reason for this included in spoiler)
Spoiler:
The invasion of Tyran, the first ever contact with the Tyranids.
I would have a Hive city filled with Imperial Guard, citizens and mechanicum desperately defending (and clearly losing) to swarms of Tyranids. Spore chimneys and digestion stacks towering through the hab blocks. Spores drifting through the sky and blotting out the sun. I would have partially digested bodies (Vampire Count Zombies and Skeletons used) littering digestion pools and the streets. I would love to have unrestricted access to kit-bashing what-ever Tyranid monstrosities I could imagine.
Why choose this? I choose it because it is the epitome of futility and grimness. It's also one of the first 40K articles I ever read and the hand-drawn images are stuck in my mind. I think it's a fitting introduction to 40K and the horrors of the future.
Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts
Oh you know what? I would make an Ork invasion on an imperial fortress. A huge, at least 6x6 meters board of a grassy field, with a hill in the middle surrounded by a forest. The imperial fortress would be mostly be Imperial bastions linked into low walls, with a huge tower in the middle. I'd make my own chapter and build and paint it in full strenght (1000 marines, plus transports) and make then defend the fortress from hundreds of Killa Kans, Trukks and Boyz. At least 2000 Boyz would be necessary. It would take years to make. It would be glorious.
This x1000 likely featuring every single Imperial force fighting Tau, Kroot Mercenaries, Vespid Mercenaries, Demiurge, and maybe a few homebrew Xenos to give it that unknown new flavor. I would have an Emperor Class Titan and a Tau equivallent there as well with Ad Mech forces all around it protecting it. Models for all the Tau castes represented and even arial models fighting overhead with a few Colstar Commanders leading suit teams and then firefights/bombing runs.

Scions ambushing some punks in the swamp, complete with laser rods and half melted targets getting flamed, valkyrie running bombing runs on the infantry, with meltagunners blowing up vehicles mid-air using gravchutes.
Either that or one of the Krieg wave from the Siege of Vraks.
I'd go with a Chaos attack on a world during one of the black crusades. Maybe not anything specificlyt mentioned in the fluff so far, but I'd try to go with something BIG I'd have Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Space Marines, (maybe even squeeze in some Grey Knight terminators in small numbers) Imperial Knights, and Titans, brawling with a huge chaos army consisting of cultists, renegades of various types, chaos knights and titans, chaos space marines, of a varity of legions and warbands and chaos deamons.
I think this'd look cool, and be a good way to show off why the ally rules exist.
Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
I would make a massive diorama of Baliel and the death wing clearing out the space hulk Charnel Shrine
1/4 of the diorama would be of the outside of the space hulk where it would show a chunk of the space marine battle barge. the other 3/4 would be a cut away of the space hulk with various combat situation happening through out it with orks and tyranids, in the center would be belial leading the deathwatch and going ham on a group of tyranids.
A warlord titan and a chaos warlord in a boxing match in the center of a built up business district; lots of skyscrapers and buildings densely cover the board and some are even towering over the titans but only one or two at most. Infantry from ad mech and dark mech fight each other around the feet of the titans, IG set up some artillery to support on a nearby rooftop, and traitor guard are doing the same elsewhere. Though maybe a hellbrute or something jumping off a taller nearby building to rip apart the guard or something, not sure on that... Anyway more cumbersome things like tanks either being stepped on or kicked aside as the titans tunnel in on their fight. Creed smirking down on the battlefield hidden in one of the hundreds of little windows holding a vox caster up to his ear.
A Tau air raid on an Imperial Guard fortification, complete with a pair of Manta following the initial flights in. A hunting trio of three Tiger Sharks in a duel against a Warlord Titan, while the Imperial Navy desperately try and scramble interceptors and raise shields over their Marauders. There would be a big ball-up over one corner between about six Barracudas, three Lightnings and three Thunderbolts, and then about twelve Razorsharks and six Sunsharks doing low-altitude attack runs on the actual infantry on the ground.
Then up on one wall above the main fight, there's a Dark Angels strike cruiser hangar bay deploying a flight (three wings of three) Nephilim and two wings of Land Speeder Tempests to relieve the beleaguered Imperial troops on the ground.
Up on a second wall is an Imperial Navy ship deploying Marauder Destroyers and Avenger Strike Fighters, and then on a third wall opposite the two is a Tau ship deploying Mantas to take out the Imperial reinforcements before they break atmosphere.
All in all, I'm looking at a 12'x24' main table populated with about two thousand guardsmen, a hundred armoured vehicles, three grounded Marauder Bombers, maybe twelve grounded other Imperial aircraft, and some twenty to thirty additional aircraft suspended over the room in various places. I'm looking at another three 8'x1' suspended boards depicting three styles of space ship and their flight crews.

The center pieces would be Titans and the like, but for my personal touch a giant Land Battleship heading the charge of Imperial armor, like one of the great battleships of the imperial navy had decended from the stars and sprouted tracks to join in on the fight with it facing head to head with a Mega Gargant in a titanic "naval battle" with little Leman Russ tanks and all that running around between them.

Giant battleship tank makes everything better.... even Armageddon.
Dreams... Hoping to actually build battleship tank for real though..... I has plans to start small... make... "Frigate" first... bigger than Baneblade, smaller than "end product"... To test theories and construction concepts. Also thinking of Aircraft carrier with treads...
