The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
Awesome find. I've recently got back into the 90s X-Men stuff; Wedding of Cyclops and Phoenix, Phalanx Covenant, Onslaught, Fatal Attractions, etc. Bought all the graphic novels on Amazon. Very enjoyable. Was the best time to be a comic fan. The stories were real. The stuff today...just isn't as good.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Have been liking Superman: American Alien. Nice retelling of Supes origins, not in a Drastic way, but just in more detail than we usually see, and such that he seems more "human". It is almost Mary Sueish in the way he meets so many important people growing up though, but some of the humor involved is pretty good there so I forgive it for that.

I'm closing in on the end of the Chris Claremont era of X-Men. I followed a reading order that I found on Reddit, which directed me to read #1 and #14-16 from the very early days, then to jump to around #106 and read from there forwards to #279, where Claremont jumps off. Between this and various side stuff (Secret Wars 1 & 2, which were dreadful, selected issues of New Mutants and X-Factor) I've consumed nearly 200 issues of X-Men goodness. If I never again see Cyclops explain to himself the need for his glasses I will be a happy man. But it has been an incredible run - so many excellent stories, such interesting character development. I'm kind of dreading ending it, even as I look forward to moving past the 80s art.
Next up on my Marvel Unlimited reading: Captain Marvel! And then probably more X-Men, because, you know. I'm planning on jumping right to 2001 and Grant Morrison though, since I hear nothing good about the 90s X-Men comics...

Currently reading the Spider-Man runs from the mid-90s. I read again and again that the Clone Saga sucks, but honestly, I'm enjoying it. Ben Reilly and Peter Parker tag teaming stuff and being friends with each other is just great. Some spoiler stuff:
Spoiler:
Mary-Jane is nearing the birth and I read somewhere that this get's retconned? I'm in the middle of the Revelations arc and MJ seems to be poisoned. I hope she doesn't lose the child, but I fear that she will. I know they weren't together in Superior Spider-Man... and outside of stuff like Civil War 2, I never heard a child mentioned. Well, let's see, I'm reading them tonight.
I got Marvel Unlimited (Marvel's monthly digital subscription service, with a back catalogue of 17,000 comics) back in February and I've got to say, that's money well spent.
Being from Scotland, comics outside of 'The Beano, The Dandy, Oor Wullie and The Broons' weren't much of a thing. - Though I did have Sonic The Comic.
So yeah, with my only real experience of the 'original' stories being the 90's cartoons and the recent movies, I've been making good use of it. So far I've read:
The Phoenix Saga leading to Days of Future Past
Secret Wars (Original)
The Night Gwen Stacey Died
A Star Wars Comic called... Star Wars...
Age of Apocalypse
Avengers Disassembled leading to House of M leading to Messiah Complex
I think I'm going to leave Civil War until after I've seen the film, then compare and contrast. - I know the main plot points of Civil War (and apparently the main comic makes Iron Man to be like majorly the baddy).
Avengers VS X-Men is on the cards too at some point. That and none other than 40k's very own Dan Abnett's run on Guardians of the Galaxy.
Overall though, I'm kinda open for suggestions.

When I was walking around Indianapolis yesterday, I happened into a Comic shop and saw a new series with Hal Jordan in a new comic, but it wasn't called Green Lantern.
Anyone know the skinny on that?

AvX is superb, in many ways a better Civil War than Civil War. Being 12 issues rather than 6, and without the literally dozens of side stories and sub-stories Civil War has, the story has a lot more time to breathe and doesn't feel anywhere near as crowded. There's some great character work, some amazing action sequences and all in all, it's probably my favourite Marvel crossover event.
On a more general note, the last comic I read, courtesy of the newly launched Marvel Graphic Novel Collection (highly recommended by the way, the production values are top notch), was Iron Man: Extremis. Really enjoyed that one, and basically came away wondering why the hell Iron Man 3 wasn't just a straight up adaptation of that story, rather than a butchery of all the key elements with added Disneyfication...
Next up it's back to DC, the three I have to hand at the moment are the first volumes of the N52 Justice League Dark and Constantine runs, or Infinite Crisis (might leave that for a while, though, it's pretty weighty! About 350 pages, I think!)

Honestly, I've no idea, I basically stopped reading Marvel after AvX and Dark Reign as it just got waaay too convoluted. Then there was Secret Wars where the universe gets blown up and sort-of reset, and now I've basically not got a clue what's going on, other than that they're gearing up for a Civil War II for some reason.
The AvX plot is no worse than any other Phoenix plot...
(minor spoilers)
Spoiler:
Phoenix Force comes to Earth, more powerful than last time, takes over host bodies, said bodies start taking over the world, most people see this as the evil it really is, a few loyal X-men back them (at first, at least), leading to several massive fights. Some people switch sides, some people fight amongst themselves, all standard stuff really.
In the middle of all this you have Hope Summers, basically Jean Grey 2.0 and the only Mutant who can contain and defeat the Phoenix Force, so she's really what they're fighting over.
The end is a bit silly if you think about it too hard, but done well enough that it's tolerable.
So yeah, I say it's worth a read. Good plot, good art throughout, pretty much every character you know and love features in some capacity and at one point Namor gets beaten up by most of them, so it's all good!

I liked it. It's important until the mega-event Secret Wars really messes stuff up again.

Ugh, after struggling through Secret Wars 1 & 2, and wanting to gouge my eyes out in boredom at them, I'm really not keen on another storyline about the Beyonder and his tediousness.

The trades are probably easier to read, but the compendiums end up being way cheaper, and you can exercise just by holding the book and reading!! Weighs quite a bit.

I'm just starting the part of Negan. A certain famous scene with Lucielle has just taken place. I also bought the full Rise/Fall of the Governor novelization. Not technically a comic, but rose from the comics and show. Anyone read it? How is it?

Agree COMPLETELY!
I just hope his stay on the TV Series isn't as overdone too...
Pretty sure it will be six times longer....

I don't think it has the Beyonder is in it. It's mainly about Dr. Doom or God-Emperor Doom as he is promoted to in it.

As of late I have dug out my The Punisher comics, and started to reread them since I stumbeld upon the new version of the series set in LA. Good reads all around if a bit OOT at times.
Beside that I have been reading the comics by Jason, witch is always solid as stone.

What's everyone making of DC Rebirth? It'll be a while before I get to actually reading it as I want to be up to date with at least the main Justice League run before I go post-Rebirth, but seeing various summaries of the changes
Spoiler:
I'm not really a fan of replacing the N52 Superman with the pre-Flashpoint one. The new one definitely felt more grounded and relatable to me, even if not as idealised as the classic version. I'll give him a shot, though, Supes is still cool even if he has gone back to putting his pants on the outside again! I'll be interesting to see how the League takes to this new/old version though.
The Three Jokers thing I need to look into more, but on the surface it sounds pretty stupid. Seems like a very peculiar way of explaining the change in the character over the years, and almost cheapens it if the one man Batman can never beat is in fact 3 different guys now...
Lex is king of Apokolips now? That I can get behind, should be interesting and he's been great in the N52 so far, they've definitely handled the balance between villain and simply idealist pretty well with stuff like Forever Evil. The idea of him trying to set himself up as a better Superman seems very in character for him.
Still need to read through Darksied War before I get to that though!
