Well, Brethren of the Dark Covenant might just make Joe CSM kinda worth fielding, which is great for my Night Lords models.
Also could see a Cult of Slaughter used as a bubble wrap unit for a Renegade Knight.

.. I don't like any of them. Most of them are troops choices with benefits that are worse than objective secured.
I can see a decent list being made with kranons hellguard.

I like some of them, but whats up with possessed everywhere!?
I bet they are pushing possessed on everyone now so that when they release new models, everybody has to buy new ones..
I really like the one with dark apostle and cultists though.
They just get so much more survivable, i think it could be worth it to mark them nurgle or tzeentch, or even get Typhus in on some zombie action.
Also everyone has fear in CS and possessed has different chart.
There are synergies with prophet of the voices and possessed, so a sorcerer summoning is viable.

Possessed are everywhere because it is a shtick of The Crimson Slaughter.

They are everywhere because Crimson Slaughters fluff is full of Possessed. Now ill grant you that Possessed are not the best, but hey, if they come out with a new model im fine with that, most likely they are based off the fact that they mysteriously "sold out" on the website ( I think they are still out.) Hell if GW followed their current trends if we DO get new models we will likely get some new rules for them to. And we all have been clamoring for that! #silverlining!
Im really digging the possibilities of the cultists formation. Hoping to try them out with a CSM allied detachment with Typhus. Gives you a nice bubble wrap of them that can bog down almost anything for several rounds. Only thing that sucks about them is they are so damn slow! But if anyone has any good ideas about how to get them into combat I am all ears!
But in all honesty allying in other Chaos formations and models is the way to go. I have had alot of fun listbuilding and stuff the last few weeks. Allyingin Daemons, Black Legion and Khorne Daemonkin gives us some fun combos. Could it be better, sure but at least we got some things to make us a little better the last few months! This is one happy servant of the dark gods!

Well... its not much, but, the loyalists get to replace their terminators in formations with cataphractii and the GW game is against Word Bearers. So maybe...just maybe, we'll eventually get to use gal vorbak instead of possessed? You know? Wishful thinking and all that?
For me the red onslaught will never ever get used.
Kranon's helguard would be nice if it didn't require the land raider. The helbrute is meh, but not as bad as the raider. Maybe deepstriking the chosen with a claw along with the terminators and raptors with an allied BL sorcerer conclave could make for a nasty surprise. With three deepstriking units and 12 inch bubbles, telepathy might cause some damage and you should be able to reduce the BS of one or two squads, which can't hurt. If you can bag the warlord trait, you would reduce leadership by 2 within 12 inch of your warlord, minus 3 if you cast terrify. And in the rare case where the unit is vulnerable to fear it would get a whopping -4 modifier. Even a fearless unit would have to worry about Dominate at that point, being a leadership test and not a moral test. And if you dunno what to do with your warpcharges, I guess hallucination could stack for -2 BS.
Lords of slaughter is free prescience but at the cost of loosing objective secured? Meh, I'd rather pay for it and take the units I want instead. Actually, even if you're already using those units I'd still prefer a CAD and pay for it unless I really want a psyker lord because rule of cool.
I don't use cultists, but the cult of slaughter with typhus sounds like it would be pretty neat.
The brethren of the dark covenant formations I don't like due to the dark apostle and possessed. I try to avoid both and all this gives me otherwise is better khorne berzerkers that still won't make it into assault. Unless you plan on running an apostle with prophet in a unit of possesed anyway, I think it's too expensive. Not sure if anybody runs Bile on any regular basis but he might make this formation not half bad. You basically get free +1 S, fearless, feel no pain and zealot on one unit of csm if you already use him. I certainly wouldn't take it just to give CSM fnp and possessed still don't cut it for me, CS or otherwise.
Disciples of mannon is pretty weak with the formation buff being a one time thing imho.
And as for the ravagers. As I said, I'm not too keen on possessed so this one is a pass for me. Although if you plan on tying something up with possessed, you get a better version of draznicht's ravagers from this so in that case it would be great. Those chosen won't be objective camping anyway.

I just think the formations are weak.
They give only benefits to one unit in the formation, or one charachter.
Other factions formations give benefit to the whole formation etc..
About finding a way to get your cultist blob, or anything for that matter, up the field fast, is to ally in a librarian and a scout squad or something and use the teleport squad power.
Or you could join your sorcerer with daemonology sanctic, and teleport.
Chaos space marine can take sanctic.

That's cuz these are just individual formations rather than a formation of formations. I guess the red onslaught kinda is, but at the minimum price for that formation and the units you have to take? You'd have to get several knights for free at least before anybody would even consider taking it. It's just bad on so many levels.
