So this weekend we got two games in of Warlord Games Project Z. I wasn't going to buy into it as it looked pretty "meh". That was until I saw the special forces. Instantly bought 2 boxes of them and a hummer vehicle since they can use one.

Over all, the game plays pretty quickly as you use the special dice to determine any outcome. The first game we played was special forces consisting of 4 guys and the hummer with a mounted machine gun vs 36 zombies. Spec ops had to grab the scientist and evac while surviving the horde. This really felt thematic and captured the game well. In the end, the score of the game was tied at 9/9.

For the base game value, 50 bucks is a amazing deal for how many minis you get, plus the tokens/dice etc. Special forces box isn't bad, 8 guys for 25. Considering you'll probably never field more then 6, max of 8

One issue I don't like is its not reactive play where you go I go you go I go. Its player A moves all, then player B moves all, then zombies, then player A shoots all, then B shoots all etc. Seems a little bad for a skirmish game.

The rulebooks are also written pretty horribly. Misspelled words, sentences that make no sense, rules left out. I get they were in a rush to beat mantic's walking dead, but really? also many of the Biker Gang cards are printed wrong.

The zombie minis are also meh. ITs just better to buy Zombicide boxes since they are like 25 bucks for 24 zombies and already built and looks just as good if not better.

Over all I liked it, even though there is a lot of bashing it. It has great potential, but there's a lot of rules confusion. Following are my questions, and if anyone knows the answer please let me know. I signed up for their boards but have to be approved by a admin so waiting on that.

1. Does the Spec Ops Hummer get 1 melee dice in combat?

2. Does the man inside manning the gun get to use his special abilities to load bullets?

3. Do you count the man shooting the gun from the hummers stats for determining shooting?

4. The grenade launcher says the target and all models within 1 take the combat result. So if I roll a surge on the to hit, and there is 7 zombies do I instant blow up all 7?

5. when the hummer engages since it can ram, do I hit all moves in contact with it or just 1?

The base game is a fantastic price point... I found the game fast and a refreshing quick game... it's also quick to learn the basics, so I've played with a few non-gamers who have really enjoyed it.

Though I don't have answers to your questions - the game designer (and other people from Warlord) are often on their forums, answering questions.... so once you're registered, that's probably the best place to post your questions - failing that, maybe email them?

We have played many games of this now since my posting.

We like it, as it is fun and the zombies are well done in how they are managed by the game itself. We use zombiecide zombies though as they are good models and already built. Warlord zombies are crap.

I did register after posting and been in a lot of talks with the people on facebook answering questions. ( most of their official FAQ is questions our group had )

It does falter a lot though from many many gaps in the rules. A lot is still unclear with how things work and many people have posted the same frustrations.

At the end of the day, they rushed it hard to compete with mantics walking dead. Which was a horrible move since they have had to release new rules and fixes a few times now.
