Subject: Necron questions.

Now that I have decided to build a Necron army I have two questions for Dakka.
Question one : Ive looked through the formations and there are two of them I cant fathom why anyone would take, am I missing something? The Annihilation Nexus seems far to fragile (even with the special rule) and costs far to many points for what you get. And the other formation im not understanding is the Deathbringer Flight. Its formation bonus seems weak and the actual craft seem to be super focused on anti-tank and not enough elite infantry killing power. Now I know im probably missing something here so this is why I ask.
Question two : Is the forgeworld Necron offerings worth the high price? Ive never bought from forgeworld before so I do not know what the quality is like or the actual ingame power of their Necron models.
Thank you in advance for reading this and perhaps answering.
Edit : I am also going to be using Ctans. Im not sure in what form but am leaning to the Nightbringer/Deceiver combo. Are there any rules out of codex to make powers of the Ctan less random? I know im reaching here.

1) You just described what are generally considered to be our worst two formations. From a competitive standpoint, there is very little reason to take an Annihilation Nexus or a Deathbringer Flight when we have so many more efficient options. However, both can be and are fluffy and fun to play. I'm currently working on an Annihilation Nexus because I like the idea of having a bigass cannon on my back line. A Deathbringer Flight could come in handy if you were going up against a Flying Circus or multiple Flyrants, but honestly, Nightscythe DTs could probably do just as much good. I view both formations as ways to "tone down" a Necron list when going up against a weaker codex. To me, games are more fun when they're close. Automatically Appended Next Post: And no. Random C'tan powers are random. Not much we can do about it, but my Nightbringer is one of my favorite units to field for that very reason (and because I work harded on the conversion).

1. You are correct, they are both lacking. But they are a simple way of adding them into a Decurion.
2. Forgeworld has some interesting tools, but they are a little over priced (pocket wise and point wise) for what they do in 7th edition. The nerf to Skyfire hurt them a little.
C'tans are interesting to use. The randomness of the powers has been an issue and there is no way of modifying that roll. The Nightbringer's build in Gaze of Death is very nice as you can pick a different unit than the random power. Aim for those low LD squads and take them out, then go for something bigger with the random power.
Also, check out the Conclave of the Burning One:
https://www.frontlinegaming.org/2015/12/30/necron-tactics-formation-conclave-of-the-burning-one/
it is the only way I run my C'tans now, even with it's high point cost (470), ignoring all ST4 and lower, Deep Strike, Feel No pain for him and 4+ reanimation for the crypteks can be worth it

The Conclave looks great! thanks for the tip. But is it a legal choice for a decurion?

You just have to add a Formation Detachment to your army list.
You do not get the bonuses from the Decurion, but you have enough bonuses in the formation.

Although the Deathbringer Flight is currently third-tier, I have a suspicion thatthe deathbringer flight is going to be top draw when Death From The Skies comes out next week. Whatever bonuses Attack Fighters get vs ground targets, it'll be on top of the +2 BS buff. I'm assuming the anti-vehicle Attack Formation will give a buff vs armour (the death ray is already Lance S10 AP1!) and the attack formation vs non-vehicles looks like Ignores Cover - which would be a superb combination, especially vs Eldar Jetbikes.
For info the current Decurion formations are considered:
Top draw: Reclaimation Legion, Destroyer Cult, Judicator Bn.
Tier 2: Canoptek Harvest, Royal Court, Living Tomb
Tier 3: Deathbringer Flight, Annihilation Nexus.
The most used are Rec/Legion, Dest/Cult, Jud/Bn and Can/Harvest.
As I said, when Death from the Skies arrives I suspect Deathbringer will get serious buffs making it top tier, and also suspect both fliers will lose Skyfire SR so Annilihation Nexus may become the primary source of on-battlefield anti aircraft firepower, possibly with tomb blades helping out.

I'm kind of hoping so. I've been looking for an excuse to get another croissant, and as I said in my earlier post, I really want to try out the Annihilation Nexus.

The thing making me pretty excited is that as far as I can tell, Necrons are one of three armies to have exclusive air formations (Tau have two, Orks have three). Of those, Necrons are the only army which can take four fliers in a formation - the other armies are limited to three. I think this is true. I've spent too long on BoK today.
