I was thinking of splitting a "renegade" box with a friend and use the knight as an ally to my ultramarines.

Which type of Knight do you think would fit best in a space marine army?

Whats your favorite knight?

Knights are a brilliant patch for a SM hole.

My IH army lacks long-range ordnance and tended to have a weak flank, so a stock Paladin worked wonders for me;
Plod forward shelling things on the other side of the board with juicy side/rear armour shots, then charge something scary looking monster or tank and wreck it.

What kind of playstyle do you have?
What's in your 'average' list?
Do you feel like you are lacking in any particular area?

These kind of questions will help you.

Need a quick assault unit your opponant cannot ignore?
>Gallant on Errant will do nicely

Need something that can make mincemeat of hoardes?
>Warden or Paladin (or battlecannon crusader, although the most expensive)

Dedicated vehicle hunter?
>Errant

Dedicated Monster Hunter?
>Warden

Something to anchor you backfield?
>Crusader

Experience is something you get just after you need it

The Warden is probably the best Knight to acompany Space Marines, as it is the great generalist platform.

My army usualy contain alot of tactical squads in rhino/razorbacks, dreadnoughts (often in drop pods), thunderfire cannons, predators and terminators.

Armies I often struggle against is those that have many monstrous creatures and high armored vehichles.

I think it is better to use magnets, then you can swap weapons to build different Knights before the battle and tally with your own marine list and pre-game startegy.

I probably wont be able to magnetize every option since there are only one upgrade sprue.

Is it a easy model to magnetize?

I thing worth noting is that you don't get two of the same knight.

you get one Errant/Paladin kit and one Errant/Paladin/Warden/Gallent/Crusader kit.
so I'd talk with your friend and figure out what he wants too. (my suggestion would be the guy who gets the errant/paladin kit gets the terrain)

over all I'd reccomend a warden, but a errant or paladin are solid choices too

I recently purchased the Renegade Box. I plan on using one with my Dark Angels, and the other for a future project. Anyone have any recommendations on what to build for the one I will ally with my DA. Basically I am looking for something to survive turns 1 & 2 along with my Ravenwing Support Squad, until my Ravenwing Strike Force arrives on turn two.

That looks like you want a Warden & an Errant. I would reccomend taking a Warden with a stormspear rocket pod, shoulder meltagun & a Thunderstrike Gauntlet.

This is the best Monster hunter with lots of AP3 high/mid strength shots, and the TSG can happily punt tanks accross the battlefield, plus the volume of mid strength shots can glance anything softer than a predator down reasonably easy.

However, that then leaves your friend with just the 'normal' knight with the weakest carapace cannon, unable to build *any* of the newer varients unless she's a good converter

I find myself in the same boat as the OP. I am leaning towards a Paladin with a Ironstorm pod, to go with my Raven Guard CT. My Marines are all over the place. I got Jump assault, with a Ravenhawk Assault Group. I have nothing close to 72' range and am keen to add it into the mix.

Dual Avenger Gattling Knight at 435pts vs 16 scat bikers. (4 squads of 3s with the last squad with 4s) at 432 pts.

The dual Avenger Gattling Knight puts out 24 s6 ap3 rending shots.

The 16 scat bikers splash buckets of 64 dice at s6 ap-. No rending to hurt av13 or 14 or ap3 but who cares as you dump 64 shots that glance and strip hp off av12 and force wounds.

Knights are just aweful and dont compare to Eldar equvilant.

Nothing compares to Eldar equivalent, that's why Eldar currently gets all the hate.

How does one get a dual Gatling loadout? Pretty sure that's not an option.

I like the shooty Knight with Gatling and Battlecannon.
Its shooty, its tanky, its still awesome in close combat. Its expensive.
