Im making my own. (Type - I.R.) Because the models are gorgeous but the price is bonkers lol.

I got a new kit head, axe, skarbrands wings and a reaper bones minotaur lord.

Any suggestions would be cool, but I really need advice on the axe haft. Im thinking of making it look wrapped but dont know what I could literally use to wrap it that would look right. Or maybe one of you has another idea?

Haha, I know, that's why the shoulder joints were cut out and GSed. I liked the positioning better that way because of his right arm being extended straight back as it is. (Its supposed to look as if he's twisting his 'wrists' backward to hold them back)

A little better contrast and the axe in question.

It seems pretty cool, a lot like a more oldschool GW model, but in a more modern size! I like the way the wings are whipping backward.

It is pretty hard to see the detail on the white parts in the photo, perhaps if you apply a thinned down black ink and repost we could see a little more easily?

Willdo. And yeah, the legs are very reminiscent of the bullhead thirster to me.

The detail is not bad on the reaper mini either. There were a bunch of celtic-esque patterns, a horrible codpiece that looked like a rotting hogshead and a godawful tail, but I liked the pose alot and this entire mini sey me back less than $30 us

Im waiting on some GS to dry (filling in the neck) and Ill probably prime him. Either way Im gonna resize these imgs too...

By the way, I had heard Reaper's stuff is hard to stick paint to, and I can now unequivocally concur.
(Hence the heavyhandedness)

I'm still hoping that someone can toss me some advice on the axe shaft. I'm thinking I want to make it look leather-bound. Open to ideas of how to accomplish this modeling-wise, or any other suggestions.

I solved my axe conundrum with strip plasticard.




Even in real life I didnt see that mold line through the blinding white. (don't worry its coming off)


As I said, this is still the preliminary round.Holding off on the wings til last, shoulder pad hasnt even gotten a drybrush, bronze will all get agrax and a highlight.

But mostly now I want to know where you think I should go with the skin.

So far has been red gore to mephiston red, nuln wash, red/yellow highlight and bloodletter glaze. I mightve glazed too soon after the last highlight...

Love the conversion! One thing on the axe shaft, do you think it would be worthwhile putting some nick/tears in it to break up the uniformity?

Just a thought, but love what you've done with it! (I'm a big fan of unique conversions)

Yes. Yes yes yes. Something like that will absolutely have to be done. Which brings me to:

Ribbon never crossed my mind. If you check out the paint in progress pic with the unpainted axe arm, you can see the strip plasticard I used to wrap around the base.

To tie both of your ideas together, I wanted to do something like this:
but felt the plasticard was too thick for the crisscross pattern, and ribbon might just do the trick, with a couple of gouges in the haft itself to make it look 'in place.'

This is really, really nice!
