I wanted to create a look of freshly disturbed dirt on one of my terrain pieces. I was thinking about mixing PVA glue with dirt to create the effect. I was wondering whether this would work and if so how stable this was likely to be (i.e., when playing would it mean that I would get a lot of mud/dirt on everything)?

If you watered down the PVA a bit it'd probably work, you'd want to seal it afterwards though.

Model railroad guys must do something like this, have a look at Boulder Creek Railroad for inspiration, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjRkUtHQ774mTg1vrQ6uA5A
