Hey guys, hoping you can answer a question for me about Ork warboss and his gear options.

So i was going over the wargear for my brothers warboss and realized that the melle weapons options have the clause of replacing the model's melle weapon. Does this extend to the slugga? While technically it is a pistol, I know that pistols count as a specified melle weapon for the purposes of the "No specified melle weapon" rule from the BRB which states that a model without any specified melle weapon is considered to have a CCW. So more specifically, can the warboss replace both his slugga and his choppa with a power klaw?

And on a slightly related note, if the warboss were to take one of the Gifts of Gork and Mork like the Headwoopa Killa Choppa, could he then replace that piece of wargear with items from the melle list since it is in fact a melle weapon? I think this goes to whether upgrades are step-wise or taken or applied all at once which I'm still unsure of.

Thanks in advance!

I think you've got a couple of things mixed up there - 'Pistols as Close Combat Weapons' isn't part of 'No Specified Melee Weapon'.

The rules for pistol weapons however state they count as a close combat weapon in the Assault phase, so only in the Assault phase do they count as a Melee weapon, which of course isn't part of choosing your army, so unfortunately no.

I just posted the following in another thread:

There's precedent for sequential upgrades in terms of a unit's options for example in the Space Marine Bike Squad datasheet, where the two Space Marine Bikers may take items from the Special Weapons list, but would need to each first take the option to replace their bolt pistol with chainsword because the Special Weapons list requires exchanging a Melee weapon.

In this instance, using the above as precedent to allow it, you'd be entitled to take Headwoppa's Killchoppa and then replace it with a power klaw.

As Mr Shine pointed out the slugga would not qualify as a melee weapon for the purposes of being able to swap for a PK.

That said the most practical way to get 2 PKs on a boss would be in the Ghazz supplement taking a PK and Da Killa Klaw. Not very points effective but its doable. Also note that a Big Mek in Mega Armor can replace his ranged weapon with a Kill Saw while keeping the PK that comes with the Mega Armor.
