Hi, after a long hiatus away from 40k, have still been playing, but historical (mainly horse and musket).

I have been convinced by my long time friend and occasional gaming buddy to get back into the GW side of the hobby.

Even though I haven't played I continued to pick up bits and pieces that I liked the look of. So I have enough Elysians for a full platoon, a special weapons section. I have some of the old Kasrkin models so I believe I have enough to fulfill the 1 HQ and 2 troops required.

I also have three drop sentinels, 3 Venators, 3 tauros (essentially dune buggies) I have a vulture from many years back. When all this came about I couldn't help myself so I went and picked up a Knight Crusader.

So onto the point; can someone point me in the direction of a workable list that incorporates these disparate elements, I know I will need to pick up a few Valkyries and Vendetta's to make it fight a little harder. My main antagonists will be Tau, Eldar and Dark Eldar. My big problem is that I have no idea how many las-cannons to multi-lasers, as I don't have a data bank of what these armies look like.

All input would be greatly appreciated.

The Vulture IS the twin linked Punisher and any other loadout is a waste of your money and points. For modeling while the FW set is ok, i've had great success with the VWB Punisher cannon using missile pods as ammo drums. As you'll have one set spare from the vulture kit that'll probably be enough.

Vendetta/vulture wise i'd suggest 2:1 ratio with either 3/6 of them. the Mont'Ka book allows you to do Elysian drops properly (low altitude drop, no scatter) and if you're taking actual storm troopers then they'd fit well in micro squads in the vendettas with either melta or plasma guns.

Venators etc i'd suggest that you follow the Standard Guard Procedure of taking two of everything available as you're guaranteed to lose one of them.

As for multilaser/lascannon, probably lean more towards lascannon as nothing an extra multilaser will do compares to the Vulture Punisher, and you're better spreading out your anti Big Scary Things equipment.

Thanks for the reply, I only followed some of what you were saying (not up on some of the in-speak).

so a few questions: I guess what you are saying is that Kasrkin should fly in the Vulture. I didn't follow the VWB section?

what is the Mont'Ka ?

was thinking that since the buggies are only in the forge world books I might be better using them as stand ins for sentinels?

vengeance weapon battery - if you're using vultures and don't want to spend money on the dinky forgeworld punisher cannon model, i'd suggest you get a hold of the vengeance weapon battery's cannon as it's huge and rather stylish

Kasrkin/Stormtroopers/Tempestus Scions (all meaning the same, but the last one is what they're called now) can be taken in squads of five to ten, as the vendetta can only transport 6 models i'd suggest you put them in there, as the standard valkyrie can carry 12,which would be good for a standard toops slot veteran squad and maybe a commisar or priest.

Mont'Ka is a supplement book which adds in additional ways to use imperial guard - if you're going flyer heavy it alows you to take 3 units of valkyries/vendettas together and grant them special deployment bonuses.

If you're using forgeworld models, then by all means use forgeworld rules - they're accepted as part of standard play now since, frankly they're no longer the win button they used to be since the standard codex have more rich creamy cheese.
