After years of playing WarmaHordes, I am just now entering into the world of 40k. This was in large part due to the announcement of the Blood Bowl reprint coming later this year. Hell, I even worked at the national HQ out of high school when it was in Glen Burnie, MD and I still didn't pick up the hobby. Anywho, I digress...

My name is Marc, and I am a wargamer.

I ordered a copy of the core rulebook from GW and am waiting for it to come in. Am I correct in assuming that the game scales in increments of 500 (500, 1000, 1500, 2000) points for most battles?

My buddy gave me a Space Wolves codex, a Sammael, and a Ravenwing Command Squad. If the above is right, I am wondering if anyone could be of assistance using these models to fill out to the different levels. I realize this is technically army list discussion, but I didn't want to be a complete n00b and bog down that forum.

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome!

You will have fun pouring over the history of the respective armies. For instance, Space Wolves and Dark Angels don't get along too well. But you can still have them be allies.

The game scales with however many points you wish to use. 750, 850, what ever goes. Except anything over 2500 points will get into Apocalypse territory.

It's been a while since I actually played anything larger than a 1000 though so things may be different by now.

Sammael is the most resilient HQ of the Dark Angels for one reason alone he has Eternal Warrior so he won't get Insta killed by some lucky gun shot.

He cost a lot so he isn't the best choice for 500pts games to 1250pts games. I usually field him at 1250+pts with a librarian on bike too.

In smaller games like 500pts with no restrictions whatsoever I field only the librarian (ML2, with Shroud of Heroes and a conversition field) on bike attached to a small Bike squad with gravgun/combigrav plus another fast attack choice.

The fastest way to get a Battle Forged army right now for you would be a Ravenwing Strike Force 1 HQ and 2 Fast Attack.

Sammael is the HQ and two choice of the following: Bike Squad, Attack Bike Squad, Landspeeder, Black Knights (your ravenwing command squadcould be them) and the Darkshroud.

I did not mention any flyer in the list because that would mean your army would be reserve turn one because of the rules of the Ravenwing Strike Force and would auto loose.

I recommend getting a Darkshroud for boosting Jink to 2+/3+ reroll save instead. of 4+.

About mixing Dark Angels/Space Wolves: They have a longstanding rivalry, but they will fight a common enemy together without hesitation though it may look a bit like Gimli/Legolas competition kill count.

Greetings,

Welcome to Dakka, I'm an old school Dark angel collector and all these new rulesets can be confusing, Personally at low point games you want to be as efficient with your points as there are some really point hungry models and you can quickly get our manned.
