Subject: How to represent death world fauna?

When I was younger, I used to also collect fantasy models for lizardmen and dark elves. I've just recently found a number of models, including some cold ones, a hydra and a stegadon. While at some point I'd like to make an Eldar Exodite army, for now I'd quite like to implement them in a game of 40k.
My initial idea was to use them as a sort of terrain with old school rage: if you enter the area they are in they will try to chase you out/ catch and kill you. Or, as a way to get someone else involved, give them control of the "army" and make up an objective.
My question is this then: how could I make them work? Has anyone tried to do anything similar?
Also what kind of stats would I give these beasts?
I've always wanted to have a way to really represent the dangers of these death worlds, and this would be quite a fun way to mix the games up a little. You could even use these beasts as mobile objectives or to throw out someone's plans. I'm imagining a stegadon bursting out of the forest to topple a rhino, or clashing with a carnifex, or a pack of Cold Ones chasing down some fire warriors while my dark eldar cackle.

Miniwargaming had a batrep not too long ago and I think it was Salamanders vs. Space Wolves on a necron tomb world, they had necron warriors placed on the board and they would "awaken" on a D6 roll based on the turn. so turn 1 would be on a roll of 1, turn 2 would be on 2 or 1. and the warriors would attack the nearest unit.
You could fashion a similar scenario where the beasts are in cover and do something like that to add a little extra, maybe use some of their fantasy stats (the ones that transfer)
Cold ones could use the cavalry unit type, and the other 2 could be monstrous creatures. and for objectives you could make killing a unit worth 1 VP as an added bonus.

Just use the WHFB stats.
They're pretty good representations of the models' size, strength, toughness, attacks, wounds etc
A few 40k special rules and you're sorted.

Here are some really old chapter approved rules , you might like as an inspiration. It lacks the pictures of the white dwarf but they might still be helpfull.
The white dwarfs might still be available on ebay. The rules for creatures are split in 2 issues I own them both but have to look them up to be sure what numbers they are

There is also this old GW web document that is archived at dakka dakka.

If you really want things to die you might want to take a look at the appoc enviroment rules in warzone pandorax they are fun but really nasty. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Apocalypse_War_Zone:_Pandorax

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I like the idea of them waking up on a D6 roll. I would like to use their fantasy stats, but I can't find the codexs and I'm reluctant to buy two new books for this purpose... Though I guess I could probably figure out their stats regardless.
@oldzoggy those links are really helpful, thanks. I'm going to try and create some kind of death world scenarios using this information soon!
I've not played kill team yet, but I was also imagining some kind of scenario of a kill team trying to survive in a death world. Either alone or fighting an enemy. Would that work in your opinions?

I've always wanted to do a Death World Flora army, where all my models would be creeping vines, carnivorous flowers, windblown mind spores and so on.
I've never followed it through as I'm not sure how much my opponent where his game narrative is 'I walk through the jungle and die'.

I would love to play against an army like that. It could make for some really interesting scenarios. It might be a bit difficult as it would be quite an immobile army. Maybe in scenarios where they have to get to a certain point or to the other deployment zone?
Or, you could be the third player in a game in which not only do they have to fight each other, but contend against hostile flora and fauna. Almost as a DM or something.
I'd quite like to do that as a form of Eldar Exodite army - the whole planet is rising up to fight the invaders.
