I'm new to this whole wargaming thing. I have no experience, know no lore. You may treat me as the uneducated idiot I am as far as wargaming is concerned. I'm interested in getting into this, but I'm not all too sure about how to go about it. I've really only read marginal bits of lore and some names, and I'm not really familiar with any of the terms or similar things.
All I know, is, the Black Templars are cool as hell.
I'm interested in beginning to play and building an army of them, as well as learning their lore and tactics. However, knowing nothing, I don't know how to do so. I'm also on a budget, 200 USD being my upper limit to build an army on top of everything else. If someone could direct me to a topic in which to put out my plea for a teacher, that would be much appreciated. The date I post this, as will probably be covered by the system, is 4/30/2016. As I await an answer or something similar, I will continue to follow the learner's guides and beginners tutorials I have discovered thus far.
If you're willing to help me out or want to message me more directly, please private message me.
Thanks!

Welcome to Dakkadakka and welcome to gaming. Its with mixed emotions that I read you have never played. It is very very very very addictive. Im sorry for that.
The black templars are a great choice. Black Armored Zealots. Very grim. Very dark. Good choice.
Your budget is low to start. But thats ok. Marines are ubiquitous and easy to obtain used at less than retail. Before you part with your money, I recommend first reading posts in 40k Lists section. Look for BTs or general spacemarines. Ebay and dakka swap shop are good places to start for used stuff. I like new personally thpugh. Most 40k games will be played with 1000-2000 points. Mostly at 1850. Get a rulebook. Get a codex. Better the rulebook than the codex TBH. Download battlescribe to look at units on the cheap. Borrow until you get the coin for it. You might be able to get an ild edition for next to nothing. I gave mine away (2 or 3 editions have xome out rapidly recently with minimal changes and look very similar... caveat emptor). Finally, a good core to start with is a very competitive build called gladius strike force. Enjoy. Remember you can pay less than retail for used. And finally, I recommend buying new from your local shop when you can. Theyre often giving you space to play and sponsering the events. My local one offers 20% off retail on all minis. All the time.

Thank you for your kind words sir. I'm already looking into gathering squads of marines and have found a crusader/terminator heavy build that I'm considering starting with. I don't however, know of any groups that meet to play in my area, so I'm looking into that as well. Is their a resource for finding meetups in a specified area? If so, could you perhaps link me to one?
Regardless, thank you. This has proven to be a great point to start from.
