Hi all,

I have recently returned to the hobby after a couple of years. I am looking into getting a air compressor as I am now in a financial place where I can finally afford it. I am looking to spend $150 - $200 NZD just on the compressor, the airbrush I will find later on.

I am hoping someone from Oz or NZ on here will know of a good brand/model and can help me out,

Thanks guys!

Airbrushmegastore.com are based in Adelaide, best prices I could find at the time.

I bought the is925 Iwata Smart Jet Lite.

It is a good compressor, but way overpriced for what it is (and out of your budget).

Do you paint anywhere near your garage? Get a full size workshop compressor (from supercheapauto), put it on a timer, route the airhose to your desk - that is what I'll be doing if and when I get a garage.

thecombatcompany.com have Badger compressors, but their pricing on Iwata brushes is ridiculously bad, so I am not sure what their badger prices are like (still, looks like it will be in your budget).

Failing another kiwi showing up with a secret source there somewhere, TCC is where I'd go for ~$200

I've been using one of these guys...

You can often find them in hobby shops. My local hobby shop was actually the cheapest place I could find it.

Some hobby stores might also have the AS186.

They are cheap chinese compressors, but I can't bring myself to pay the price Iwata and Badger charge for a piddly 1/6hp (125 watt) compressor when I could buy a big powerful one from Supercheap Auto for less

I got my from TCC, as there isn't anything decent here compressor wise.
The one with a tank is a bit out of your budget but is above the free shipping to nz threshold.
Also they take the gst out of the prices for us which imo makes up for the difference in exchange rates.

Thanks again guys. I think one with a tank is the better option as I'm not keen on the constant noise. I might have a look at the local hobby shop and get some prices there also.

I managed to pick up a combo kit ($300 for brush and compressor) a couple of years ago from Hobby City on Lunn ave - http://www.hobbycity.co.nz/ didn't have a tank on it however I run mine on a regular basis and the noise isn't bothersome.

Hope that helps and welcome back to the hobby!

Hey Knightley,

good to hear from you mate! I literally just got back from Lunn Ave Hobby City, it is very close to where I am working so just popped out for 20 minutes and had a look. The only brand they have in stock is Testors Aztek range, and after doing some research online it seems that they are not a great brand... So I will keep looking.
I might try out some other hobby shops around Auckland, see if they have anything better.

Noise is not the reason to avoid tankless, pulsing air supply is

I feel like this is going to be a very expensive setup! The Badger TC910 looks like the perfect model, just getting it here in little old NZ is gonna cost an absolute bomb.

It still is, though it does seem they increased the free shipping threshold to 250 from 200.

Ah bugger on the cost, interested in how much a full set up costs to get it to NZ if you willing to share?

Also are you going to start your Space Wolf blog back up?

For a decent compressor with a tank and a decent airbrush it was looking like i would be spending well over 500. Ouch.

As for the Space wolves blog I will eventually get it back up and running, I'm painting Cadians at the moment and I'm really enjoying them. I also want to get some Sigmar stuff, I don't paint to play I just like to paint so I'm down for a bit of anything!
