What is the most efficient imperial generic?
I'd suppose that crack blacks come in at the top of the list due to their abundance in tournament winning lists. Academies are also good, ofc, and don't require a bunch of extra purchases for the crack shot cards.
What about the TIE advanced protoype generic? At 17 points with their title they have pretty impressive action economyfor such cheap ships, plus very nice maneuverability with a green 1 hard turn and some durability in 2 shield 2 hull. Also, it all comes in one blister! I'm not sold on the Barons, their EPT cries out for juke but they may not be able to take advantage of it due to their lower PS (losing their evade before they can shoot). Maybe with crack shot... but 21 pts for action economy and some extra durability/mobility vs 15 pts for a crack black is a bit of a hard sell.
Are any of the generic interceptors worth it? Don't see them too often, I'm guessing the extra 6 points over a TIE makes people just take more basic TIEs... Their fragility seems to call for high PS to arc dodge as much as possible, might be eternally the realm of aces. Although you can fit 4x PTL royal guards in 100 points, could be fun against lower PS swarm-type lists...
The TIE f/o brings some durability, target lock, and a green hard turn to the table, useful upgrades for a reasonable price. I've heard them about on par with the basic TIE. Almost never see Omega squads though...
I'm a bit of a newb, so forgive me if this is retreading old territory (I didn't find what I was looking for in a topic search).

Depends what you mean by efficient really, in terms of head to head jousting the base AP pilot is pretty much top banana, although once Imp Vets lands an Onyx Squadron Defender with X.7 title will be a serious contender
I'm not really sold on the basic TAP, it's very much like the Rebel A-Wing, both are kind of passable in generic swarms but both sides have cheaper swarm options in the normal TIE or Z95, and of course 2 hull makes Direct Hit crits float to the top of the damage deck (science factoid !)
Basic Interceptors were okay for a while then some evil so and so invented the Twin Laser Turret, which is common enough at tornys that non-ace Interceptors are a bit of a no-go
The F/O is okay(ish), the points increase over an AP pilot is fair in that you get a shield and an improved dial, but it's unlikely that tops a Black Squadron with Crack Shot
One last Imperial that is fairly efficient is the Omnicron Shuttle, yep it flys like a brick but 10hp and a 3 dice attack is kind of a bargain at 21pts, plus it has the best upgrade option in Systems and lots of other decent options if you want to play build-a-bear with it.

Tie defender with x7 title according to MJ'S matching, they beat the former best which was the tie fighter/headhunter.

TIE Fighter's with the PS 1 pilot used to be the king for Imperials. Apparently the new TIE Defender title gives it a run for the money, but remember that the TIE Defender has to move at speed 3 or more in order to rival it.
Which means that the regular TIE will probably remain the most truly efficient as it doesnt matter what speed it goes at, it always has that same JV. By limiting the evade token to speed 3 or more, it'll make the Defender predictable to a degree, which is something you NEVER want to do in X-Wing.
Yes, you can get all cute and still go with a speed 1 or 2 move, but then you're not getting the evade token so unless you're out of his arc its still a bit of a loss.

Blacks with Crack are hard to beat in terms of overall efficiency. I know the numbers have been run on X7 Defenders and found them to be good, personally I've proxied the PS1 Generic a few times and been pleased with its overall performance so its definitely one to one watch once Imperial Veterans are out.
Obviously however there's a lot more to the game than just raw points efficiency so there's a wide spread of viable purchases/lists/aces based on ships that perhaps aren't the best taken as the baseline generic. For example the PS1 TIE/FO- in theory they get a massive boost in performance for a 3 point increase over an old TIE Academy Pilot. But as it ends up as the same cost as the aforementioned Black Crack TIE's the space is very rarely there in a list. However the main time TIE/FO hits the table in the present meta is as Omega Leader with Comm's Relay & Juke because of the amazing pilot ability and its interactions with upgrades that come in its expansion. Omega Leader fielded this way is 26 points which is most of the way to 2 Black Cracks/PS1 TIE/FO so is not as straight maths efficient but it unquestionably the better choice for the majority of players.
