assume a tactical marine veteran sergeant were equipted with a thunderhammer and a plasma pistol and he is in assault with a random target.

as a veteran sergeant he gains 2 attacks.
are the both with the thunderhammer at initative 1?
or could he take 1 or 2 shots with his plasma pistol that has pistol rule that all bolt pistols have?
if he can attack with plasma pistol, does it hammen at his normal initiative?

Check out the "More than one weapon" rules in the Weapons chapter, more than one weapon section. It explains everything.

Yeah, read the stated rules.

Further, pistols can't be used in combat as a pistol, but only as a 'normal' CCW. So you don't get a plasma shot in CC, only an attack with the user's Str/AP.

Yeah, the actual rule book. The BRB is clear how a model with multiple CC weapons works

You pick a melee weapon that the model has and make all of your attacks with it. This includes all bonuses, such as from charging or having two melee weapons. This is what everyone is alluding to by telling you to read the "More That One Weapon"rule.

Note that some bonuses are handled differently, like Hammer of Wrath, but that's the general rule.

see ive thought since I started playing this year, all ive needed was the dacodex. I e thought that since this chapter is different there was no need to buy the adep us codex/that three book set of the rules.

all ive needed to know so far not in mycodec was ths scout, infiltrate and zealot rules.

I guess there is a bit I need to know.

You always need the basic rulebook.

How have you been moving, shooting, using psychic powers, using vehicles, using any unit types, using terrain, setting up your list, et al?

You need a copy of the 40k rulebook ("The Rules"). I think it even says on the back cover of each army's codex that you need a copy of the rules to play the game. If you don't want to buy the 3 book set (rules + fluff), pick up a copy of Dark Vengeance and use the mini rule book from that. Or grab a copy off eBay, etc.

I'm surprised you've been able to play the game without a rulebook to be honest. Did a friend teach you?

yeah The guys and gals I play against all live across the street and use my gaming den to play in.

two of the five have been playing since rogue trader, one since 2e, the other two and myself just 7e.

basically we roll, they have the tables memorized. they tell us if we hit and what happens.

I gave away the rule set from dark vengeance cuz I thought it was just some random mini adventures, for too small of points to be relevant to the 1875 -3000 point games we do saturdays.. since I bought the house and got about 11k points into a full chapter build..

for the price of the brb set thingy, I can get a significant number of guys.. so been putting it off. seems that I need it. ill adjust it in the list.

alot im learing as we play.. like Saturday I learned stompas and Obelisk are very mean. pretorians, cant take out a stompa.
never use 5man tactical combat squads when I dont have to. dont disembark just to shoot, rhinos have 2 spots I can fires the heavy weapons from. plasma pistols need to ve replaced w combi plasma for all the sgts/vet sgts. obelisk obliverated my scouts in turn 5.

The rulebook is very helpful at addressing specific questions like these.

You could pick up another copy of Dark Vengeance, keep the rulebook, and sell all the other models on eBay. Or sell/give them to your friends. If your friends have copies of the rulebook, then maybe it's not such a big deal, since you can share.

I need 9 more of those boxes to finish the ravenwing biker squads. 17 to do deathwing squads, 14 for the dev/assault squads..

so ill get some a small rule books and hold onto them this time, enough to use as terrain

will definitely be selling off chaos
