Thinking of dabbing my hand into KDK as I'm tired of BA/Orks just not doing it in Close Combat lol. Will be starting small and building up from there, so this is my 500 point beginner list that I would like KDK veterans to go through.

Chaos Lord w/ Juggernaut of Khorne, Power Fist, Kor'Lath, the Axe of Ruin = 205

8x Bloodletters = 80
8x Bloodletters = 80

Soul Grinder = 135

A lot might have been spent into the Lord, but it felt like a lot needed to be splashed into him to make him effective. I wasn't sure whether the Powerfist or the 4++ invulnerable would be better. Also unsure how to increase the strength of the Lord so that I'm not wounding T4 on 4's, without losing my Initiative.

I'd give your chaos lord a juggernaut with the goredrinker axe with sigil of corruption its been effective for me. Personally i don't find the Kor'lath axe to be very effective apart from that you're list looks good

While your chaos lord has a lot of points dumped into it, I think it's fine. It will also get the model ready for when you're playing higher point games. Not to mention, you're practically getting 2 bloodthirsters with him, if your group allows the korlath shenanigans. (I wouldn't advise the sigil because sometimes you want him to die)

The soul grinder is amazing and will likely be nasty at those points. I also Kit my Lord out like that, Kor'lath isa nasty weapon, but might be a bit of overkill at those points. If I might make a suggestion:

Lord: Juggy, Blade of endless bloodshed, powerfist, sigil of corruption. 205pts

Bloodletters: Bloodreaper. 85 pts

Bloodletters: . 80 pts

Flesh hounds: +3 hounds. 128pts

This gives you a blob of fast moving hounds that can attach to your lord, and give you some mobility that you will need, as well as something to lookout sir to as wellas soak wounds from the fire he will have coming in. And hell if they get in they are decent attacks and can pop lighter vehicles themselves without the lord. and for the bigger stuff he has his powerfist. Also with Blade of endless bloodshed he will keep getting better as the game goes. This is guna give you some mobility that you where lacking before. believe me you don't want squads of bloodletters wondering across the table taking shooting when they only get a 5+ save. this will force your opponent to either focus the lords unit or spread his fire out, either way you will probably get your lord in. At 500pts you are not going to get enough bloodtythe to get to summon a Daemon prince anyway so the real amazing part of Korlath is not effective. Besides your thirster is guna die just as fast as a lord on juggy.
If you want to keep Korlath cus you like it(i mean its still a free thirster!) , thats cool i would switch it out but i would run 6 hounds still and blood reapers on both of your bloodletter squads.
this will give you a good core to build from for your army, cus believe me, once you get to higher points you will want Flesh Hounds.

I'm really stoked with the new FAQ's so I want to keep the Axe of Ruin, since Bloodthirsters can be summoned in Glide mode now (so lose the Lord and next turn charge)

I'll come back to the drawing board though and see what I can do, particulary if the Soul Grinder is overkill

I can't blame you for wanting to keep the axe for the Thirster, I can hardly blame you there. Who doesn't want a big daemon of doom! I would still consider the hounds, At that size your probably guna have a lot in melee as fast as you can and i have found that unless you are bringing anti vehicle weapons then shooting doesn't cinergize well.

i would drop the jusggernaught (gasp) and take a bike instead that way turn 1 you turbo boost with the thirster axe and a combi melta and melta bombs. waste the combi melta and charge into cheap units and jink everytime they try to kill you. if they choose not to kill you charge into something that will kill you i.e ap3 close combat guys. if they dont kill you then good job you are stalling.

I have tried that "sacrifice him", stratagy. its never worked for me. He dies sure, but then the rest of their army picks off the Thirster who just appeared. Having your lord actually get some work done before he dies has always worked out better for me personally.
