So a local guy is trying to sell the following for $300 USD. Problem is I don't really know what I'm looking at to compare to retail.

Does this look like a good deal for the asking price?

just witha quick glance each tank should be at 40$ so only in tanks you should have nearly 250$ in reatil prices.

add the extra squads and armors and don't seem a bad deal at 1st glance if you don't mind much about already painted and mounted minis.

P.S: this comes from someone with little knowdledge about Tau and second hand markets!

hard to say cause a lot of it is sprues. But I'm seeing what looks like 3 hammerheads, 3 devilfish, two unfinished frames and not sure what else is with those, 5 crisis suits, 4 broadsides, with scattered firewarriors, pathfinders, and Kroot.

also I think there are 9 stealth suits, 6 on table pluse another sprue in the box.

It depends on what you want. But a lot of those things probably won't see much use, mostly the vehicles.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Cool, thanks for the feedback. A friend of mine is wanting to start 40k with Tau so I've been keeping my eye out for him.

Somewhere in south-central England.

It's a good deal. You've got about £450 worth there which is probably $600 in US terms

What you've got there is a solid core of Tau army needing only some modern high end units (Riptide, etc) to be highly effective. It's all 5th edition era kit.

Obviously it needs to be stripped and repainted and a lot of it is still on sprue.

It is a fair deal for what you're getting, just make sure all the parts are there. I would value each battlesuit at 8-10 USD a pop (depending on condition) and each tank at around 20 USD. Going by that, not including what's in the boxes, the stealth suits and Fire Warriors, you have already roughly 230 USD worth of stuff (this is not MSRP, but rather what I would actually pay for the lot). However see if you can talk him down a bit if you offer to take everything, as moving whole armies generally is hard so he might be willing to give you even more of a discount. Just be nice and maybe buy him a cup of coffee.

Also I see a few Broadsides there, but they're the old edition of Broadsides so I'd value them at the cost of standard battlesuits (which are literally half the price) rather than Broadsides, as they were essentially standard battlesuits.

I priced out the models that were on the table (using Crisis battle suit prices for the broadsides) and it would cost over $700 to get this stuff new.

Anywho, I'll tell my buddy to take a look, and I'll give him a warning that the tanks may not be the most useful models.

In all honesty I haven't kept up with the game. 7th ed kinda killed 40k in my area, and our FLGS closed up about a month ago. I've been meaning to sell off my Tau and Eldar but am rather indecisive on the issue.

But from experience, Devilfish always end up feeling like a tax rather than a bonus. Hammerheads are okay but I've always preferred skyrays. Stealthsuits look cool, but are rarely usable.

But it's not a bad deal. That is a lot of plastic that can be used to get a large force very quickly and then fill in as needed later.

On the plus side, these models are strong units, but not cheese, so you won't be doing "catch the riptide" when you play with him and he won't feel like he's being a jerk for playing the army he likes.

The game will change again, and Hammerheads and Devilfish may become useful again -- it might happen just from a new formation.

If you want to convert the Devilfishes to Hammerheads or Skyrays, GW sell the upgrade sprues separately.

I don't think they sell the sprues anymore, or at least not that I could find. Though I think it wouldn't be hard to create your own conversion kit for it.

But I mean we did just get an updated book, a new edition came out last year, and a new supplement for the game is on the horizon. I think it's a safe bet to say devilfish won't be that useful. Though there are still fun ways to play them.
