Howdy. I have lurked on and off here for a while, and finally made an account a few days ago so I can subscribe to a couple of threads I want to keep track off.

I was introduced to Warhammer in 1999 not too long after I started high school. I found it suitably nerdy, and really enjoyed the fluff. I scratched up $50 to buy the 3rd edition Chaos codex and a about 15 infantry models off a mate whose interest flamed out in a month or so. The models were assembled and maybe half of them spray painted black. I read that codex cover to cover many many times, and spent many hours theorycrafting the "perfect list" (pfft rhino's waste of 50 points what a noob trap lol).

Then I actually investigated buying some more models, and was horrified to see the prices. How much? And you have to put them together, and they come unpainted? I never was into the modelling aspect of the hobby, I found it really off-putting, as I am not an artistic or creative person. Plus my pocket money was $5 a week.

I spent the rest of high school just building lists, swapping around books with friends, and dreaming of when I would have enough money to actually buy some models and get someone to paint them for me. It never happened. I have bought a fair few codexs over the years, read some Black Library books, played Dawn of War ect. but never bought any more models.

My interest has waxed and waned over the years (what, seventh edition now? Last rule book I read was fifth edition) and it took a while for it to sink in that I was in the minority with my attitude to modelling (a horrible chore that must be done before the delicious wargaming).

After I was done schooling I moved to a remote mining community where the nearest flgs was four hours away and lived there for the next ten years. I have recently moved back to civilisation and the opportunity to actually get into this hobby in a real way beckons. With the benefit of a few more years behind me, I figure I might have the patience to do some assembling and painting as well.

Basically I've been a fan for 17 years and have never played a real table top game, nor assembled and painted a single model. Loyal to Chaos in spirit if not in deed the whole time.

I will mostly just lurk as I always do.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
