Does anyone play/has anyone played? Any fans of the stories around here?

I have read the stories and enjoyed them. An interesting thing about the Hammer's Slammers universe is that it is considered suicidal to take to the air. The weaponry and targeting systems are too sophisticated and advanced and anyone going above the horizon gets vaped almost instantly.

However, I have never played the game of the same name.

Setting aside shipping from Blighty, the thing really holding me back is the seeming chasm in design sensibility between the retro blower tanks and combat cars on the one hand and the more conventional AFVs on the other. Stuff from a single line/setting that looks a bit mish-mash, if you see what I mean.

Loved the stories, Not quite as much of a fan of the retro designs. Having read the books, I can say that it wouldn't be at all hard to make the same vehicles, with roughly the same dimensions and functionality with updated aesthetics. Sort of like MWO did for Battletech designs.

Still, I've been tempted to buy the book just to read and for the pretty pictures, but other projects have come in the way and I don't have minis for it so it slips further down the acquisition list.

It did garner a good bit of interest when it first came out (around 2011 maybe?).

I have the book - just for the reading of it.

I started reading the books back in the late 80s when a mate put me onto them - and Drake's stuff in general. Read "Hammer's Slammers" and "Ranks of Bronze" (and then "killer") and I was hooked.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I think Drake wrote a new story just for this book.
