What is the optimal unit size?
Can I have too many ?
What configuration of squad size/number do you use?

(All in the role of counter-assault unit)

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

1) Six to Eight-ish.
2) Only if they get shot because the unit is too big to hide behind a vehicle or piece of terrain.
3) 6 w/Vet Sergeant and Lances. . .sometimes two units of them when I'm not taking 2 Hellhounds.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

To add to Yak;

1) Six to Eight-ish - even numbers preferred
2) Only if they get shot because the unit is too big to hide behind a vehicle or piece of terrain - or becomes unwieldy and not manuverable
3) 6 w/Vet Sergeant and Lances. . .sometimes two units of them when I'm not taking 2 Hellhounds. - same here, used primarily as counter-assault they charge in only after another unit - usually infantry squad - is engaged in H2H
