Looking to start a new army and wondered if I could get some advice from players of those in my options so I can get a good sense of which one to go with. Currently I have an eldar and ad mech army and am looking to choose something that will play differently.

Looking at the following.

Grey Knights
Space wolves
Chaos - specifically nurgle but I have no idea how this would work with the current state of the codex.

Any thoughts in any of the armies would be much appreciated plus any comparisons to the three.

of those three I'd reccomend space wolves.

Chaos Marines suck, and grey knights suffer from a "too little diversity" problem.

Grey knights are good but they are very mono build if you are going competitve.

Nurgle could work if you run zombies. If thats not your fetish then you could go fast nurgle. Take cyclopia cabal and get 15 spawn with mon for bodyguard stuff. Then take daemons allies or go with a knight.

My recommendation is build your own space marine chapter that way you can play all the space marine codexes. And if you are like me you can play chaos too.

Ignore Chaos Marines for now, there's no hope left for the faction. Unless you enjoy playing 4th ed play styles, while paying 4th/5th edition pricing for everything, while Loyalist scum get almost every single one of your unique units but their versions are simply 10x better, because... "feth Chaos players".

Only thing Chaos has going for it right now are Daemons & IA:13, and even then, Daemons are starting to get a bit long in the tooth & Tzeentch really doesn't work as intended anymore due to how 7th has nuked all their psychic shooting.

Daemonkin is an interesting alternative, but it's purely 'Khorne only', and really, the strength of that book is milking a bunch of extreme MSU units to keep the Blood Tithe going, and spaming the ever living gak out of the Gorepack formation. (and occasionally throwing in Be'lakor to cast Invis on a Str.D 'Thirster)

I would also recommend Space Wolves if those are the only results you have. If you like the chaos aesthetic, use CSM marines and chaos AoS cavalry as stand-ins, like Skullcrushers as Thunderwolves.

I'd suggest grabbing grey knights inquisition, assassins and making them into an inquisition and Co. Army. I don't think anyone would get mad at you for running allies like this because they did used to be single codex if I'm not mistaken.

If you want to be competitive though, go with the people who's every naming conventions are basically "normal word + wolf" or "wolf + normal word"

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice so far. Not too interested in competitiveness as I only play in a friends group. Will be mainly up against tyranids, dark angels and necrons. As I have eldar already who can mix it with necrons am looking to make interesting games against tyranids and da.

Am being put off chaos by the sheer neglect they have received. Their codex is light years behind the others, amazed GW have let this happen!

So between wolves and Knights I'm still torn. Love the dreads and the fact you can run terminators everywhere but also wolves have so much more diversity. Which would benefit from being allied with an imperial knight? Both I assume but would that change things for either army?

Was actually considering orks until my friend talked me out of them saying the are just a 'charge up the middle army'. If someone can change that opinion then I'm all up for them as would be a blast!!
