Any reason I can't put a legacy of glory on an Imperial knight? Thinking that might be worth a nasty surprise with everyone dusting off their flyers for this new book

Isn't legacy of glory a space marine thing?

Yeah but I thought when take an imperial knight as a LoW option, they gain the faction of whatever marine army they joined. You know, that whole "all units in a detachment have to be from the same faction" thing.

I'm not sure you can take an Imperial Knight as a Lord of War in a Space Marine faction anymore. You would need to take an Oathsworn Detachment as an allied detachment (and not an Allied Detachment).

You cannot fill a space marine LoW slot with an imperial knight anymore.
since the latest knight codex dropped, they are considered their own faction with their own detachments.

That is more a case of restricting the options available to the detachment, with units with no Faction violating this rule (as in Fortifications). Imperial Knights have their own Faction.
And isn't Legacies of Glory an option to take some units from a specific Imperial Armour? Are there any Imperial Knights on that list?
Remember the restrictions the options provide, and are often limited to the interactions of the books in question.

The Cerastus knights from Forgeworld can be taken as Lords of War for Imperium armies.
That being said, make sure any opponents are cool with you taking a Forgeworld knight with a special ability tacked onto it that was originally intended for Space Marines vehicles. It's hard enough as it is getting people to play against Forgeworld due to the people who liked to cherry-pick the best stuff and abuse loopholes from outdated rules-writing.

Yeah, the FW Knights can take Legacies, since they are taken as LOW in an Imperial Army.
