So it has been a couple of weeks since the new (horrible) Ork supplement "Waaagh Ghazkghkull" was released. My initial thoughts were that yet again GW screwed the pooch and delivered yet another pile of steaming excrement that was both unplayable, not fun, and essentially very expensive.

The only thing in the entire supplement that mattered was the "New" Orkurion. Which is fething useless unless you want to take Ghaz in and allow your entire army to be fearless (You know, fearless, the thing that orks had prior to 7th edition). So now that we have had a few weeks to play test this ourselves, what is everyone's opinions on the Ghazcurion? Was it good, was it useless, was it "Meh"?

It is just like the Cadian formations. The Ghazcurion doesn't function in 1850 or less point battles. It works for larger games...I suppose.

if it's not against site rules, what are the units needed to make the formation?

The Ghazcurion (Orkurion with ghaz in it) requires

Ghaz
Mad Dok Grotsnik
3 x warbosses
Big Mek
Mek
2 x nobz
6x boyz
Gretchin
and then 1 aux choice, lootas I believe are the cheapest.

Grand total for that formation, without a single upgrade at all? 1188 points.

If you give the boyz units a trukk and a Nob with a Powerklaw, and then equip the Warbosses with Mega Armor, your already at over 1700 points. And that is before you even give Gifts, Turn your Nobz into Mega Nob, or utilize anything at all with your "Amazing Amount of Auxiliary choices"

BTW if you upgrade those Nobz, give DLS to a warboss and give your Big Mek Mega Armor your total comes to over 1900 points.

So why, in my opinion, does the Orkurion or Ghazcurion suck? well the points speak for themselves I would say.

I don't even need to know the special rules to see this isn't worth the trade off :-/ Shame because I loved the Green Tide they replaced to get this

I played it with everything stock, then added MSU bikes, made the unit of Nobz into bikers w/attached stikkboss, and it performed fairly well as a spammy fearless chaff-mob at 1850.

I played in a local tournament, won 3 lost 1, only one really solid victory tho (lots of pyrrhic win by points victories)

Solidly beat a list with skyhammer lib conclave, and beat a fairly competitive Eldar list. So not awful.

FYI tho per the new FAQ green tide is in no way gone. See the ruling on out of date formations.

Running everything naked, meaning no extra powerklaws, no trukkz, no eavy armor no nothing, just giving that one warboss a Bike/PK/DLS and giving the nobz Bikes your left with 426pts to field MSU Bikes. which gives you 5 units of bikers with 2 boyz and a nob with a PK and 1 unit of bikers with 3 Boyz and a nob with a PK. Not exactly frightening but better then some garbage I guess.

Of course by doing this your turning your army into a 1,100pt battery to field a bunch of bikers. And if Ghaz dies (which is possible believe it or not) then your left with a bunch of bikes that if they lose 1 model will probably run off the table.

Not saying its not an effective strategy, but considering its our "Decurion" you think they could have at least have given us the ability to take it at a 1,500pt level instead of being required to play 1850 or higher.
